🔹 Verse 173 – Surah al-Nisāʼ | Wilāyah-Based Tafsīr from the Ahlul Bayt (AS) 🌙 The Noble Verse “As for those who believed and did righteous deeds — He will give them their full rewards and increase them out of His bounty. But as for those who were too proud…
🔹 Verse 174 – Surah al-Nisāʼ | Wilāyah-Centered Tafsīr from the Ahlul Bayt (AS)
🌙 The Noble Verse
“O mankind! Indeed, there has come to you a clear proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a manifest light.”
— Qur’an 4:174
📜 Tafsīr from the Ahlul Bayt (AS)
1. Imam al-Ṣādiq (AS):
“Al-Burhān (the proof) is Muhammad (PBUH), and al-Nūr (the light) is ʿAlī (AS).”
🔸 The “proof” is the Prophet, and the “light” is the Commander of the Faithful.
📘 Tafsīr Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 540
📚 Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 9, p. 197 / Ta’wīl al-Āyāt, p. 150 / Nūr al-Thaqalayn
2. ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm al-Qummī (RA):
“The Light (al-Nūr) refers to the Imāmah of Amīr al-Muʾminīn (AS).”
🔹 It is the Imamate of Imam ʿAlī (AS) — the manifest light that guides toward true spiritual direction.
📘 Tafsīr al-Qummī, vol. 1, p. 159
3. Imam ʿAlī (AS) – On the Layers of “Light” in the Qur’an:
In various verses of the Qur’an, the term “Light” (Nūr) has different but interconnected meanings:
📖 “Allah is the Guardian of the believers; He brings them out of darkness into light” → the light of faith.
📖 “To bring people from darkness into light” → the light of divine guidance.
📖 “They wish to extinguish the Light of Allah with their mouths” → the light of Islam and the truth of Muhammad (PBUH).
📖 “We have sent down to you a manifest light” → the light of Wilāyah of Imam ʿAlī (AS) and the Imams of Guidance.
📖 “Their light will shine before them and on their right” → the light of faith and righteous deeds that shines through Wilāyah.
📘 Biḥār al-Anwār, vol. 90, p. 21
✨ Wilāyah & Mahdawī Perspective:
🔸 According to the Ahlul Bayt (AS), “the proof” (burhān) is the Prophet, who illuminated the path of truth. But that path is incomplete without the “light” (nūr) — the Wilāyah of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (AS), described by the Qur’an as clear, manifest, guiding, and the criterion of truth.
🔸 In the Era of Occultation, this divine “Light” continues through the presence of Imam al-Mahdī (AJ). Though hidden, his light still illuminates the path for those who believe. The true Awaiter (muntadhir) lives in the glow of this light and never distances from it.

🔹 Surah al-Ma’idah – Verse 1 | A Wilāyah-Centered Tafsir from the Ahlul Bayt (a)
🌙 The Noble Verse
“O you who believe! Fulfill (your) contracts...”
📖 Surah al-Ma’idah, Verse 1
📜 Tafsir of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them)
1. Imam al-Jawad (a):
📘 Tafsir Ahlul Bayt, vol. 3, p. 558
📚 Bihār al-Anwār, vol. 36, p. 92 / Al-Burhān / Tafsir al-Qummī, vol. 1, p. 160
2. The Prophet Muhammad (s) — narrated by Imam al-Bāqir (a):
🔹 This confirms that the Wilāyah of Imam ʿAli (a) was not only a political instruction but a divine covenant imposed on the believers.
📘 Tafsir Ahlul Bayt, vol. 3, p. 558
📚 Bihār al-Anwār, vol. 36, p. 191 / Saʿd al-Suʿūd, p. 121
3. Imam al-Sadiq (a):
📘 Tafsir Ahlul Bayt, vol. 3, p. 558
📚 Tafsīr al-ʿAyyāshī, vol. 1, p. 290 / Noor al-Thaqalayn / Al-Burhān
🧭 Wilāyah-Themed Reflection
🔹 This verse opens with a direct address to the believers:
“O you who believe…”
🔸 And the first divine instruction that follows is:
“Fulfill your covenants.”
🔹 From the perspective of the Ahlul Bayt (a), the chief covenant being referred to here is the Covenant of Wilāyah — the pledge to the leadership of Imam ʿAli (a).
🔸 Thus, allegiance to the Imamate is not merely theological—it is a sacred, Qur'anic contract with Allah.
✨ Concluding Moral Insight
✅ If we truly claim faith, we must uphold the covenant the Prophet (s) secured for ʿAli (a).
✅ Rejecting Wilāyah is, according to the Ahlul Bayt (a), a breach of a divine oath.
✅ In the Qur’an and the logic of the Ahlul Bayt (a), faith is incomplete without Wilāyah.

1. Imam al-Jawad (a):
“The Messenger of Allah (s) took allegiance for the caliphate of ʿAli (a) from the people on ten occasions... Then Allah revealed the verse: ‘O you who believe, fulfill the covenants’ — referring to the covenants taken for the leadership of Amir al-Mu'minin (a).”

3. Imam al-Sadiq (a):
When asked by al-Mufaddal about the meaning of “bahīmat al-anʿām” (beast of cattle) in the verse, the Imam replied:
“The ‘beast’ (al-bahīmah) here refers to the Wali (Divinely Appointed Leader), and the ‘cattle’ (al-anʿām) refers to the believers.”
