Amir al-Mu'minin (Commander of the Faithful) Ali, peace be upon him:
"Speech is in your control until you speak it; once you speak it, you fall under its control. Guard your tongue as you guard your gold and silver, for a single word may snatch away a blessing and bring about a calamity."
Wisdom 381, Nahj al-Balagha.

Tongue Slipping
📝 The late Allama, may Allah have mercy on him, once remarked:
🔸 When a person slips with their tongue, they suffer consequences that are never as severe as when they slip with their feet. For, when one's tongue slips in speech, it may cause harm, while a slip of the foot can be easily remedied with care.
