REDESIGNING THE UTME FOR REAL WORLD APPLICATIONS

The Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, has inaugurated a committee of education stakeholders and experts to review the UTME format and explore how critical thinking, analytical reasoning, life skills and other real-world competencies could be reflected in the assessment.

With the committee bringing together perspectives from across the education sector, its initial task is to examine the proposal and make recommendations.

For JAMB, improving the UTME means continually asking what can be done better, what candidates need for the future, and how the examination can remain relevant to the changing demands of tertiary education.

NECO RELEASES 2026 SSCE RESULTS🔊🔊

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, with 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67%, obtaining five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

The Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Wushishi, announced the results Thursday at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the 2026 SSCE Internal Examination results. The results have been uploaded online and all candidates who sat for the examination can now access their results via the official NECO result checking portal.

Candidates are required to purchase the NECO Result Checker Token and follow the approved procedure to check their results. All candidates are strongly advised to download and save their result as PDF for safekeeping and for admission processing.

📍To check your result, visit the official NECO result portal at https://results.neco.gov.ng/.

📍Select SSCE Internal as your Examination Type.
📍Choose 2026 as your Examination Year and enter your Examination Number correctly.

📍Enter your NECO Result Checker Token, and click on "Check My Result". Your result will be displayed immediately. Ensure you print or save it as PDF.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has activated the O’Level result verification and upload process for candidates with NECO results, following the release of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results.

The development provides candidates with NECO results an avenue to have their credentials verified against records of the examination body and subsequently uploaded to their JAMB profiles for admission processing.

JAMB had earlier introduced a technology-driven system through which candidates can verify their O’Level results and upload them without necessarily visiting a CBT centre. Under the arrangement, the Board integrates its e-Facility platform with examination bodies to verify results directly against their records.

The activation is particularly important for 2026/2027 admission candidates who were previously awaiting their NECO results. Candidates whose admission consideration depends on the result are advised to complete the verification and upload process as soon as the service becomes available to them.

‼️NOTICE TO PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS: UPLOAD OF O’LEVEL RESULTS FOR THE 2026/2027 UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION


This is to inform all candidates who applied for admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, for the 2026/2027 academic session and have yet to upload their O’Level results to the University’s admission portal to do so immediately.

This notice is particularly relevant to candidates who fall into any of the following categories:

Candidates who previously uploaded their WAEC results to the JAMB portal but wish to replace them with NECO results.

Candidates who wish to combine WAEC and NECO results.

Candidates who previously indicated Awaiting Result (AR) and now wish to upload their available WAEC or NECO results.

All affected candidates are required to upload their O’Level results to the JAMB portal and validate the uploaded results on the UNN admission portal on or before midnight on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Please note that the portal for Post-UTME (PUTME) registration will also close on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Candidates are therefore strongly advised to complete all necessary uploads, validations and registration processes before the deadline.

All concerned candidates are urged to take immediate action, as the University will close the relevant portals at the stipulated time.

📝SCHOOL ADMISSION VS JAMB ADMISSION — WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Many candidates see “Congratulations, you’ve been admitted” from their school and immediately assume everything is completed. ⚠️

But there’s an important difference between school admission and JAMB admission.

🔹 1️⃣ SCHOOL ADMISSION

This means the institution has decided to offer you a place to study.

You may see the admission on the school’s portal or receive an admission notification from the institution.

🔹 2️⃣ JAMB ADMISSION

This is the admission officially reflected on your JAMB CAPS.

Your JAMB admission status is important because JAMB is responsible for maintaining the central admission record.

📌 SO, WHICH ONE IS MORE IMPORTANT?

👉 Ideally, your admission should eventually be properly reflected on JAMB CAPS.

If your school says you have been admitted but your JAMB CAPS still shows “Not Admitted”, don't immediately assume your admission has failed.

📝 IF YOU’VE GAINED ADMISSION… WHAT NEXT?

Congratulations! 🎉 You finally saw “ADMITTED” on your portal. But don’t relax just yet — there are important steps you need to take before you officially become a student. 👇

✅ 1. Accept the Admission
If your admission is through JAMB CAPS, log in and accept your admission. Don’t ignore this step.

📄 2. Print Your Admission Letter
Print your JAMB admission letter and your school’s admission letter when available. Keep both safely.

💰 3. Pay Your Acceptance Fee
Check your school’s official portal for the acceptance fee deadline and payment instructions. Avoid paying through unofficial links.

📝 4. Complete Your Clearance/Screening
Prepare your documents and complete the required physical or online clearance.

📚 5. Pay Your School Fees
After clearance, follow your institution’s instructions for school-fee payment and obtain your receipt.

Once course registration opens, register the correct courses for your level.

2027 JAMB UTME PROFILE CREATION BEGINS DECEMBER 10, 2026

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is expected to commence profile creation for candidates preparing for the 2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Thursday, December 10, 2026.

Prospective candidates are advised to begin preparations ahead of the commencement date, particularly by checking and confirming their National Identification Number (NIN) details.

Candidates are encouraged to ensure that their names, date of birth and other personal information on their NIN records are accurate and consistent with the information they intend to use for their JAMB registration.

Any discrepancy in personal details should be addressed early to avoid complications during JAMB profile creation and subsequent UTME registration.

Prospective candidates are advised to stay informed and follow official guidelines when the profile creation process begins.

📢 UPDATE : FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OWERRI (FUTO) RELEASES POST-UTME SUPPLEMENTARY ADMISSION FOR THE 2026/2027 ACADEMIC SESSION

Candidates who chose Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) as their first choice university in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) are hereby invited to the Supplementary Screening Exercise for admissions.

* Application portal will open on Thursday, September 24, 2026, and close on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

* ONLY candidates that are at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, are ELIGIBLE to apply.

* Candidates who did not choose FUTO as their first choice University but scored a minimum of 150 can also apply on the condition that they visit the JAMB CAPS and change to FUTO.

* Only candidates with at least 5 O'Level Credit passes in English Language and Mathematics, with three other relevant O'Level subjects (depending on the programme) at not more than two sittings are eligible to apply.

Candidates who recently completed a change of institution or course through JAMB, but the change is not yet reflecting on the UNIOSUN portal, should not panic.

However, based on observations from previous admission exercises, candidates should take note of the following important points:

• You must complete your change of institution to UNIOSUN before the application form officially closes.

• If you changed to UNIOSUN but the change is yet to reflect on the school portal, allow time for the information to be transmitted and scrutinised by the university.

• Ensure that your details on JAMB and the UNIOSUN portal are exactly the same, especially your sex, date of birth, state of origin and Local Government Area (LGA).
