Visualize a mind-bending black hole!😱
The gravity of a black hole is so intense, it distorts its surroundings like a carnival mirror.
Seen nearly edgewise in this visualization, the turbulent disk of gas churning around a black hole takes on a crazy double-humped appearance. The black hole’s extreme gravity alters the paths of light coming from different parts of the disk, producing the warped image. The black hole’s extreme gravitational field redirects and distorts light coming from different parts of the disk, but exactly what we see depends on our viewing angle. The greatest distortion occurs when viewing the system nearly edgewise.
Simulations like this one help us visualize what Einstein meant when he said that gravity warps the fabric of space and time.

The catalog of star clusters, galaxies and nebulas was first produced to highlight cosmic wonders visible to amateur astronomers. Since then Hubble has taken images of 95 out of the 109 objects, bringing these objects to life in exquisite detail.
While the objects can be observed using modest ground-based telescopes, Hubble’s Caldwell collection has been assembled for astronomers to see the finer details of each object in the night sky.

NGC 6496 مجموعة
تكون نسب المعادن في هذه النجوم أعلى بكثير من نسب المعادن الموجودة في النجوم الموجودة في مجموعات مماثلة. وهذا المجال المتلألئ عبارة عن مجموعة كروية عمرها 10 مليارات عام، تُعرف باسم NGC 6496، والنجوم الموجودة داخلها مميزة للغاية. فهي لا تحتوي على نسبة عالية من المعادن فحسب، بل إن بعضها أيضًا نجوم متغيرة. وهذا يعني أن سطوعها يتغير بمرور الوقت.
تستضيف NGC 6496 بعض المتغيرات طويلة الفترة - النجوم النابضة العملاقة التي قد يستغرق سطوعها ما يصل إلى ألف يوم أو حتى أكثر من ألف يوم ليتغير - والثنائيات الكسوفية قصيرة الفترة، والتي تخفت عندما يكسفها رفيق نجمي.
