❄️ Researchers have sequenced the genome of Psychrobacter sp. SC65A.3, a bacterium isolated from 5,000-year-old ice in Scărișoara Ice Cave. This ancient microbe shows resistance to 10 antibiotics across 8 classes, possessing over 100 genes linked to antimicrobial resistance.
💪 The ancient Psychrobacter sp. SC65A.3 exhibits multidrug resistance and also demonstrates antimicrobial activity, successfully inhibiting 14 pathogens from the ESKAPE group, including MRSA and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
🧬 Genomic analysis revealed over 100 genes associated with antimicrobial resistance, heavy metal resistance, and multidrug efflux. Additionally, 45 genes related to cold and heat adaptation were identified.
