🏫 Feeling connected at school and strong relationships with staff boost teen mental health and reduce absences, according to #BeeWell study from The University of Manchester.
🧑🤝🧑 The study tracked over 25,000 students (Years 8-10) and found positive school experiences protect mental wellbeing and support attendance, more so than attendance driving mental health.
💔 Increased emotional distress can lead to students feeling less connected to school and reporting weaker staff relationships. For some, worsening mental health predicts increased absence.
💡 Schools should prioritize student connection and support, not just attendance, by fostering relationships and a sense of belonging.
