Interstellar comet may be oldest object seen in our solar system, scientists say Read Full Article #InterstellarComet #SolarSystem #SpaceNews
⭐ Comet 3I/Atlas, an interstellar visitor, may be up to 12 billion years old, nearly three times the age of our 4.5 billion-year-old solar system.
⭐ Its elemental composition is unlike any known solar system body, with 10 times more deuterium than typical comets, suggesting formation in an extremely cold environment of -243°C.
⭐ Discovered in July last year, 3I/Atlas is the third interstellar object ever observed. Previous theories of it being an alien spacecraft have been dismissed by NASA and the SETI Institute.
⭐ The comet is currently leaving our solar system and will not return, making future observations challenging, but more interstellar objects are expected with new observatories.
