📊 **r/science Reddit Community Survey: Early Findings**
* 🧑💻 **Community Demographics:** The r/science survey, conducted in May 2026, revealed that the majority of respondents are men (around 75% in the random sample). The average age is nearly 40, with a notable percentage identifying with minority groups (30-47%). A high level of education is prevalent, with about three-quarters holding a Bachelor's or advanced degree.
* 🗓️ **User Behavior & Motivation:** Most respondents are long-time users of r/science, with over 59% first visiting more than 5 years ago. Key motivations for visiting include piqued interest, learning, and seeing what's new. Sanctioned users (those with removals or bans) showed a higher interest in debate and supporting excluded perspectives.
* 🤖 **AI Perception & Use:** Users estimate that around 49% of content on Reddit and 31% on r/science is AI-generated. However, actual reported AI use for content creation remains low (~90% of users across groups did not use AI for content creation).
