By using a private sensory channel through ultrasonic echolocation, prolonged chasing, and mid-air prey consumption, bats can hunt nocturnally migrating passerines at high altitudes 🌌🦇 and therefore exploit a rich food resource 🍽️ that remains largely inaccessible to most predators.

Some blind people use returning echoes from their own mouth clicks to perceive external surroundings, or echolocation. New experimental EEG study found 4 blind individuals comfortable with using echolocation could identify object location better than 21 people with vision intact in a dark room.

🧠 Expert echolocators, including those who are blind, use tongue clicks to "see" their environment, with brain scans showing their visual cortex responding to sound echoes.

💡 A 2021 study by Lore Thaler found that both blind and sighted individuals can learn echolocation with just 10 weeks of training, repurposing visual brain regions.

📊 After 10 weeks of training (2-3 hours, twice weekly), 14 sighted and 12 blind participants improved navigation and object recognition skills, with both groups showing visual cortex activation in response to echoes.

📈 A three-month follow-up revealed 83% of blind participants who learned echolocation reported increased independence and well-being.
