People often fail to practice what they preach, a behavioral pattern that stems from specific biological processes rather than just poor character. Research indicates that matching one’s actions to personal moral standards requires active mental integration.…
🧠 New study in Cell Reports suggests hypocrisy isn't just bad character, but a biological process linked to reduced activity in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC). This brain region is crucial for integrating actions with moral standards.

🧠 Researchers from the University of Science and Technology of China found that when people act inconsistently with their stated morals, their vmPFC shows mismatched activity patterns between making their own choices and judging others. This indicates a failure to apply ethical rules to personal behavior.

🧠 Further experiments showed that disrupting the vmPFC's activity using noninvasive brain stimulation actually increased participants' hypocrisy, demonstrating the region's direct control over moral consistency.

🧠 The findings suggest that moral consistency is a skill that can be strengthened through deliberate decision-making, and understanding these brain networks could aid in teaching ethics and developing consistent AI.

New analysis of 2,674 papers from the French institute that promoted hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 finds ethical or legal concerns in 853 articles Read Full Article #Hydroxychloroquine #COVID19Research #EthicsInScience
🔬 An analysis found 853 articles from the IHU Méditerranée Infection with "substantial" ethical and legal concerns. Institute founder Didier Raoult was a co-author on 758 of these.

🗣️ Donald Trump, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. previously promoted research by Didier Raoult, particularly regarding hydroxychloroquine as a Covid-19 treatment, despite widespread scientific disagreement and concerns about research quality.

📄 Raoult's prominent paper claiming hydroxychloroquine was an effective Covid-19 treatment was ultimately retracted in 2025 for ethical and scientific reasons, after being cited thousands of times.
