Smart women at work get treated worse by their own teammates. In two studies (432 students, 394 office workers), women who scored higher on intelligence tests were seen as more hostile, got less help and faced more mistreatment. Smart men didn't face this…
👩‍🏫 High-scoring women in cognitive ability tests are perceived as more hostile by teammates, leading to reports of more mistreatment and less help compared to men with similar scores.

💡 This pattern, studied by researchers including Nitya Chawla of the Carlson School of Management, suggests gender stereotypes influence colleague interactions, where women displaying high competence might be seen as lacking warmth.

🤝 Two studies, one with 432 business students and another with 394 financial employees in China, found that higher cognitive ability in women correlated with being seen as more hostile and less communal, resulting in less help and more victimization.

🏢 In contrast, men with higher cognitive ability in the corporate study were viewed as less hostile, receiving more help and experiencing less victimization.
