Scientists create new gene drive system that converts insecticide-resistant forms of mutated insect genes back to their natural, native form, and then disappears. In lab experiments all of the offspring were converted to native genes in eight-to-10 generations, which took about six months in flies.

New Gene Drive Reverses Insecticide Resistance in Pests… Then Disappears
UC San Diego geneticists have developed a gene drive-based solution to the widespread problem of insecticide resistance. In an effort to protect valuable crops, the researchers created an “e-Drive” that reverses insecticide resistance and then disappears…

🔬 UC San Diego biologists have developed a new CRISPR-based technology, pPro-MobV, to combat antibiotic resistance by neutralizing drug-resistant genes in bacterial populations.
🧬 Inspired by gene drive technology in insects, this second-generation tool can be introduced to a small number of bacteria to spread and disable resistance across a larger population.
🦠 The technology has shown success in tackling antibiotic resistance within bacterial biofilms, which are notoriously difficult to treat and contribute to disease spread in clinical and environmental settings.
Phage viruses can also deliver the pPro-MobV elements, working alongside engineered phage to combat resistance.
