🌊 Billions of lake fly larvae (Chaoborus edulis) undertake daily dives to over 200 meters to escape predators, rising at night to feed.

🔬 Dissection revealed these larvae use two pairs of tiny air sacs, functioning like ballast tanks, controlled by a material called resilin that expands or contracts with pH changes to regulate buoyancy.
