๐ŸŒ A new study in Sociology of Religion found that as internet access grows in a country, religious affiliation and self-identification tend to decrease. The research analyzed data from 81 countries between 1990 and 2022.

๐Ÿ“Š The study, led by Miran Lavriฤ, revealed that internet expansion was the most consistent predictor of religious decline among modernization factors like education and economic development, suggesting it's a key driver of secularization.

๐Ÿ“‰ While internet diffusion was strongly linked to fewer people belonging to religious denominations or identifying as religious, its effect on practices like service attendance or the personal importance of God was less pronounced.

๐Ÿ”„ The researchers noted that the relationship might be reciprocal, with religious decline also potentially encouraging internet adoption, and that the findings apply to a specific historical period of rapid internet growth.
