🔬 A new, highly sensitive blood test (ddPCR) detected pancreatic cancer traces missed by standard tests (NGS) in 106 Northwestern Medicine patients, potentially identifying those at higher risk of recurrence.
📈 At diagnosis, ddPCR found tumor KRAS DNA in 65% of patients, compared to 17% for NGS. After surgery, ddPCR detected it in 56% of patients, while NGS found it in only 9%.
📊 Patients whose cancer was detected by ddPCR but missed by NGS survived a median of 27 months, significantly less than the 41 months for patients negative on both tests.
