Ketamine’s rapid relief of suicidal thoughts may be linked to an increase in morning cortisol. This specific hormonal boost persists for at least 24 hours after treatment.L Read Full Article #KetamineTherapy #MentalHealthResearch #CortisolBoost
🔬 A single dose of ketamine increased morning cortisol levels in patients with major depression and suicidal thoughts for at least 24 hours, according to a study published in the Journal of Affective Disorders.

🧠 The research, involving 80 adults, investigated ketamine's effect on the stress hormone system as a potential indicator of its rapid antidepressant effects, particularly in reducing suicidal ideation.

📈 Participants receiving ketamine showed a rise in normalized waking cortisol from an average of 0.42 to 0.80 post-treatment, while the control group (midazolam) saw a slight decrease.

💡 While the cortisol increase at 24 hours post-treatment coincided with reduced suicidal thoughts, the correlation was small to medium and not statistically significant, indicating a need for further research into the underlying mechanisms.
