⚕️ A 4-year-old boy developed severe lead poisoning after prolonged use of an Ayurvedic herbal supplement for asthma. His blood lead level (BLL) reached 123 µg/dl.
⚕️ The child presented with anemia, high blood pressure, abdominal pain, and mild neurological issues. Blood tests showed pronounced basophilic stippling of red blood cells.
⚕️ Treatment with chelation therapy (DMPS and CaNa2 EDTA) led to symptom improvement and gradually decreasing BLLs, though levels rebounded at times, suggesting redistribution from bone stores.
⚕️ This case highlights the serious health risks from heavy metal contamination in Ayurvedic products and emphasizes the need for better quality control and public education.
