Researchers have developed a contactless method that analyzes a combination of patients’ heart rate data ❤️ and facial expressions 😐 to estimate the pain they’re feeling. Read Full Article #PainManagement #HealthcareInnovation #WearableTech #FacialRecognition…
⚕️ Researchers have developed a contactless method to estimate patient pain by analyzing heart rate data and facial expressions.

📸 This innovative approach uses a machine-learning algorithm to interpret visual cues and remotely measure heart rate via rPPG, avoiding wired sensors.

🧠 The pain-prediction model was trained using extensive, realistic surgery videos (30 minutes to 3 hours), including challenging conditions like poor lighting or partial facial obstruction, unlike previous models trained on short, ideal clips.

✅ The system achieved approximately 45 percent accuracy in predicting pain, surprising researchers given the "less-than-ideal" but more realistic training data.

Half of all men over 60 have prostate cancer – an AI diagnostic tool could identify which need followup. Examinations have detected prostate cancer in 10 per cent of 50-year-olds, 50 per cent of 60-year-olds and approximately 70 per cent of men over the age…
🔎 NTNU researchers have developed PROVIZ, an AI tool designed to analyze prostate cancer MRI scans, potentially speeding up diagnoses and reducing doctor workload.

🏥 PROVIZ tests at St Olavs Hospital show promise in helping radiologists determine more accurately and quickly if a patient needs a biopsy and where it should be taken.

👨‍⚕️ Patient trust in AI for prostate cancer diagnosis hinges on human oversight, with patients prioritizing confirmation from experienced doctors over technology alone.

Researchers have developed a prototype electronics-free smart contact lens that can track glaucoma in real time and deliver drugs in response Read Full Article #Glaucoma #Ophthalmology #MedTech
💧 Researchers have developed an electronics-free smart contact lens that can track glaucoma in real time and deliver medication automatically when eye pressure rises.

🔬 This all-polymer lens uses microfluidics to monitor eye pressure and features pressure-activated drug reservoirs, aiming to improve drug adherence for glaucoma patients.

📈 The prototype, detailed in a paper published April 8 in Science Translational Medicine, demonstrated effectiveness comparable to eye drops in rabbit tests and can hold medication for up to two weeks.

Robotic assisted knee replacement gives the same patient outcomes as a surgeon only procedure Read Full Article #RoboticsInMedicine #KneeReplacement #SurgicalTechInnovation
✅ The world's largest study on robot-assisted knee replacement, the RACER-Knee trial, found that patients had similar recovery, mobility, and pain levels one year after surgery compared to traditional methods.

✅ While robotic systems offered greater precision, this did not translate into improved patient outcomes in the first year and the procedure was not linked to an increased risk of serious adverse events, indicating similar safety to conventional surgery.

✅ Robot-assisted procedures took longer (average 10.5 minutes) and were more expensive (around £950), making them not cost-effective over the first year under current NHS limits. Future benefits may arise with further refinement of the technology.
