* 📊 Young cisgender females (≤ 26) were 63% less likely to receive PrEP than young cisgender males, and only 17% of visits by very young cisgender females (< 22) who were candidates received it.

📈 Drug-resistant strains are rising: between 2011 and 2023, extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Shigella increased from 0% to 8.5% of samples in the US. By 2025, UKHSA research found 86% of Shigella sonnei and 94% of Shigella flexneri samples resistant to antibiotics.
🏥 In the US, over a third of patients with XDR Shigella were hospitalized. In the UK, sexually transmitted Shigella can require different treatment than travel-acquired infections due to overlapping resistant variants.
