Life forms can planet hop on asteroid debris, and survive: « Johns Hopkins study shows major impacts could transport life between planets. » Read Full Article #AsteroidHopping #Panspermia #LifeAcrossSpace #PlanetaryHydration #SpaceDebrisTravelers
🚀 Tiny life forms, specifically hardy bacteria like Deinococcus radiodurans, can survive extreme pressures from asteroid impacts and the harsh conditions of interplanetary travel, a new Johns Hopkins University study found.

💥 The research simulated asteroid impacts by firing projectiles at bacteria between metal plates, generating pressures up to 2.4 Gigapascals (much higher than the deepest ocean trench). Survivors showed remarkable resilience, with 60% surviving the highest tested pressure.

🌌 This discovery supports the lithopanspermia hypothesis—the idea that life could spread between planets—and has significant implications for planetary protection protocols and future space missions.

Ultra-black coating that reflects only 2% of incoming light could make satellites faint enough to greatly reduce light pollution and protect astronomical observations of the night sky, bringing the satellites brightness close to the limit recommended by the…
✨ New research from the University of Surrey shows how Vantablack® 310, an ultra-black coating, could significantly reduce light pollution from satellites.

🚀 With up to 60,000 satellites projected by 2030, this dark coating reflects only about two percent of light, minimizing bright streaks and flares that interfere with astronomical observations.

🛰️ An in-orbit demonstration is planned aboard the Jovian-1 CubeSat mission to test the coating's performance and its measurable impact on satellite brightness from Earth.

Concept: Solar Gravitational Lensing The Sun could become humanity’s largest telescope, allowing us to map distant exoplanets in unprecedented detail potentially revealing continents, oceans, and surface features. Read Full Article #SolarLensing #Exoplanets…
☀️ Astronomers are exploring using the Sun as a giant telescope via gravitational lensing, potentially achieving a resolution of 10^-10 arcseconds, a million times more powerful than the Event Horizon Telescope.

🚀 This "solar gravitational lens" would require a spacecraft to travel 542 AU (542 times the Earth-Sun distance) and scan images spread over tens of kilometers, a mission far beyond current spacecraft capabilities.

🛰️ The concept, dating back to the 1970s, involves deploying fleets of small cubesats with solar sails to reach the focal point and mosaic images.

🔭 Such a telescope could image exoplanets like Proxima b with 1-kilometer resolution, revealing detailed surface features, far surpassing future telescope plans.

The US Approves the Launch of a Mirror Satellite That Can Reflect Sunlight and Illuminate the Earth at Night Read Full Article #SpaceNews #SatelliteTech #AstronomyWorldwide
🛰️ The US FCC has authorized Reflect Orbital to launch Eärendil-1, an experimental mirror satellite in low Earth orbit, capable of reflecting sunlight at night. The satellite will have an 18-meter reflector and will be deployed at an altitude of about 625 kilometers.

💡 The Santa Monica-based startup aims to provide continuous light for solar panel installations, overcoming a key limitation of renewable energy. The project has faced criticism from astronomers and environmental advocates concerned about light pollution and its impact on observations and nocturnal ecosystems.

🔭 The FCC authorized Eärendil-1 as a single, experimental satellite for technical feasibility testing, stating that concerns about its impact on optical astronomy fall outside the scope of their review. Future large-scale deployments would require new regulatory approvals.
