Almost all side-effects listed for statins are not caused by them, according to world’s most comprehensive review. Other than muscle pain and diabetes, only 4 of 66 side-effects listed – liver test changes, minor liver abnormalities, urine changes and tissue…
⚕️ A major review of evidence, published in The Lancet, found that almost all listed side-effects of statins are not caused by the drugs.

⚕️ Of 66 listed side-effects, only four (liver test changes, minor liver abnormalities, urine changes, and tissue swelling) were supported by evidence, with associated risks being very small.

⚕️ The study examined 19 trials with 124,000 participants over an average of four and a half years, finding no strong evidence for 62 out of 66 listed side-effects.

⚕️ Researchers emphasize that the proven benefits of statins in reducing heart attacks and strokes far outweigh the minimal risks of most listed side-effects.

❤️ World-first trial reveals cholesterol-lowering statin medication significantly reduces heart attack/stroke risk for people over 70.

📊 The decade-long, randomized control trial involved nearly 10,000 participants aged 70+ and found a 30% decrease in first major cardiovascular events.

💡 For every 37 older adults treated with daily statins, one major cardiac event (heart attack, stroke, or heart surgery) could be prevented.

🧠 The study also found no significant increase in dementia rates among statin users, addressing a common concern.
