Multiple childhood traumas linked to highly interconnected addictive behaviors in adulthood. This pattern hints at a complex relationship between early psychological pain and the ways people attempt to cope as adults. Read Full Article Here are five hashtags…
🧠 Childhood trauma linked to interconnected addictive behaviors, according to a study published in Addictive Behaviors. Researchers found that individuals with multiple adverse childhood experiences tend to develop more severe and intertwined substance and behavioral addictions.

🌐 The study, involving 802 adults in Italy, used network analysis to map the relationships between ten addictive behaviors (substance and behavioral) and exposure to traumatic events before age 17. Those with two or more types of childhood trauma showed significantly higher levels of tobacco use, overeating, and compulsive sexual behavior.

🔗 Addictive behaviors were found to be more interconnected in individuals with multiple adverse childhood experiences, forming a "dense web" where one addiction could easily trigger another. Substance addictions, particularly tobacco and alcohol, acted as central anchors, while overeating showed strong links to shopping, overworking, and substance use.

📈 The findings suggest that clinicians and prevention programs should focus on the co-occurring dynamics of addictions, not just individual behaviors. Early screening for cumulative adversity and targeted prevention are recommended to reduce the development of these interrelated patterns.

✨ A new study published in Psychedelic Medicine found that individuals with a history of severe early childhood trauma experienced significant improvements in mental health after attending ceremonial psychedelic retreats.

✨ Those who reported more adverse childhood experiences showed greater reductions in anxiety and larger boosts in overall well-being post-retreat compared to those with fewer traumas.

✨ The research suggests guided psychedelic experiences could offer a novel approach for individuals with deep psychological wounds, with emotional breakthroughs and mystical experiences correlating with positive outcomes.

A new study indicates that adults with depression or anxiety who experienced childhood trauma face significantly higher odds of recent suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts. Read Full Article #MentalHealth #TraumaInformed #SuicidePrevention
- 📈 Childhood trauma significantly increases risk of suicidal thoughts and attempts in adults with depression/anxiety disorders. A study published in the Journal of Affective Disorders found that for every one-point increase in childhood trauma score, odds of recent suicidal thoughts rose by 51%, and odds of recent suicidal thoughts with a past suicide attempt increased by 2.68 times. Severe childhood trauma (score of 4+) was associated with nearly 10 times higher odds of both recent suicidal thoughts and a past attempt.

- 🧠 Personality traits, insomnia, and low social support are key links. These factors statistically explained a significant portion of the connection between childhood trauma and suicidal outcomes. Specifically, for suicidal thoughts without an attempt, neuroticism, lower extraversion, aggression, hopelessness, insomnia, and social support accounted for about 66% of the association. For suicidal thoughts with a past attempt, a weaker sense of control, aggression, insomnia, and social support explained about 39%.

- 🔬 Analysis of Netherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety (NESDA) data involved 1,572 adults (ages 18-65) diagnosed with depression or anxiety, with 55% reporting childhood trauma. Data on childhood trauma, suicidal ideation/attempts, personality, social support, lifestyle, and biological markers were collected between 2004-2007.
