Machine learning (ML) is revolutionising industries, with the global market expected to grow from US$38.11 billion in 2022 to US$771.38 billion by 2032. However, the complexity of ML models often poses challenges in explainability and trustworthiness. To close the chasm between human understanding and decisions made by sophisticated ML models, Sun Jun, Professor of Computer Science at the SMU School of Computing and Information Systems and Co-Director of the Centre for Research for Intelligent Software Engineering, introduced a functional paradigm that organisations can use to select the most suitable models for their needs - "measurable explainability."

Relieving a fear of public speaking
If you dread public speaking you are not alone. It is a leading social phobia, one that can cause a state of anxiety that reduces otherwise articulate people to nervous incoherence.
Ever wondered if conquering your fears could be as simple as strapping on a VR headset? SMU Associate Professor of Information Systems (Practice), Kyong Jin Shim, leads PresentationPro, a groundbreaking programme that integrates #VR technology and #AI to enhance students' public speaking skills. The AI-driven avatars in the programme not only nod along but can also interrupt and ask questions, mimicking a live audience.
Explore the future of public speaking with us and discover how this reshapes the way students conquer glossophobia. #SMUResearch #SMUInsights
