Volunteering at the Heart of SMU
This year, as SMU celebrates its Silver Jubilee, we also mark 25 years of community service — from SMU SoundFoundry’s collaboration with Aphasia SG to harness the healing power of music for persons with aphasia, to Project Candela by SMU Rotaract, raising awareness about the migrant worker community in partnership with the Ministry of Manpower.
These initiatives, alongside countless others, reflect a tradition of service that has grown stronger with every cohort.

💙 Service is strongest when it’s built together.
At the Community Service Partners Appreciation Event, SMU marked 25 years of community service by celebrating the partnerships that make grounded, co-created and sustainable impact possible.
From shared stories to meaningful conversations, the afternoon reminded us that service is a human exchange — rooted in trust, humility and hope. We were honoured to have Mayor Denise Phua join us as Guest of Honour.

From requirement to purpose.
SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business undergraduate Bryan Lee shares how community service grew from an 80-hour graduation requirement into a meaningful journey of reflection, responsibility and impact.
As he says, “Seeing the seeds we’ve planted grow into something greater—that’s what keeps me volunteering.” A reminder that real learning often begins when you show up — and keep showing up.
