Goodmorning everyone, Today we start the CSAT series for UPSC 2027.. In this we will be alternating...PYQs of Maths, LR and English with one question a day Today the question is an easy LR question Try to solve half the question in your mind..before pickingโ€ฆ
โ€‹Given Equations

โ€‹A + B + C + D = 17 (1)
โ€‹A + C = 6 (2)
โ€‹P + Q + S + D = 15 (3)
โ€‹P + Q + R + B = 17 (4)

โ€‹P = R and Q = S

โ€‹Step 1

Find combined weight of B and D

Substitute eq (2) into eq (1)

(A + C) + B + D = 17
6 + B + D = 17
B + D = 11

โ€‹Step 2

Rewrite (3) and (4) using P and Q

Since P = R and Q = S

Eq (3) becomes

P + Q + Q + D = 15

P + 2Q + D = 15

Eq (4) becomes

P + Q + P + B = 17

2P + Q + B = 17

โ€‹Step 3

Solve for P + Q

Add the two new equations together

(P + 2Q + D) + (2P + Q + B) = 15 + 17

3P + 3Q + (B + D) = 32

โ€‹Substitute B + D = 11

3(P + Q) + 11 = 32

3(P + Q) = 21

P + Q = 7

โ€‹Now seeing options we can say that option B is correct

Why do some mountain communities survive heavy monsoons while others face tragedy?

The Tech
โ€‹IIT Mandi: Sensors (tilt meters, accelerometers) flag ground movement.

โ€‹Forecasting: Blends satellite data, slope stability & local rain.

Bottlenecks
โ€‹Hyper-localized: Cannot predict adjacent, unmonitored slopes.
โ€‹Lead Times: Only 24-48 hrs due to rain forecast limits.

โ€‹Infrastructure
NW Himalayas, Manipur & Mizoram are highly vulnerable.

Sikkim is safer fewer roads keep slopes naturally stable.

X receives exactly 3 distinct coins from the set {1, 2, 5, 10, 20}.

Let's find all possible combinations for the total amount (m) and categorize them by whether they include the "5" coin.

โ€‹Combinations without a 5..

โ€‹1 + 2 + 10 = 13 (Prime and Sum of digits = 4)

โ€‹1 + 2 + 20 = 23 (Prime and Sum of digits = 5)

โ€‹1 + 10 + 20 = 31 (Prime and Sum of digits = 4)

โ€‹2 + 10 + 20 = 32 (Not Prime and Sum of digits = 5)

โ€‹Combinations WITH a 5..

โ€‹1 + 2 + 5 = 8 (Not Prime and Sum of digits = 8)

โ€‹1 + 5 + 10 = 16 (Not Prime and Sum of digits = 7)

โ€‹2 + 5 + 10 = 17 (Prime and Sum of digits = 8)

โ€‹1 + 5 + 20 = 26 (Not Prime and Sum of digits = 8)

โ€‹2 + 5 + 20 = 27 (Not Prime and Sum of digits = 9)

โ€‹5 + 10 + 20 = 35 (Not Prime and Sum of digits = 8)

โ€‹Now Let's Evaluate the Statements..

โ€‹Statement I:

"m is not a prime number."

Looking at our lists, non-prime totals occur both without a 5 (e.g., 32) and with a 5 (e.g., 8, 16).

Because we get mixed results.

Statement I is Not Sufficient.

โ€‹Statement II:

"The sum of the digits of m is greater than 5."

Every single combination without a 5 results in a digit sum of 5 or less.

Every combination with a 5 results in a digit sum of 7 or higher.

Therefore, if the sum of the digits is greater than 5, X absolutely must have received a 5 coin. Statement II is Sufficient.

Hence answer is Option A

There are a lot of coaching centers who are good at providing โ€œvalue additionsโ€

Such value additions make sense when we have already prepared our fundamentals and content so well that the โ€œvalue additionsโ€ add a few extra marks on the base

But, students often fail to understand that it will always be fundamentals, the static part, the thorough current affairs, that get them through

Using the great philosopher Wittgensteinโ€™s words that

โ€œRaisins may be the best part of a cake, but a bag of raisins is not better than a cakeโ€

Praying you do your basics the best and get through this exam at the earliest ๐Ÿ˜Š
