Hi all,

I found this article to be very relevant for Geography UPSC Prep.

A Quick Synopsis of the Article.

𝗘𝗹 𝗡𝗶ñ𝗼 & 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗩𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆:
El Niño amplifies existing climate pressures, driving crop stress, rural distress, and food price inflation across rain-fed agricultural regions like Vidarbha and Jaipur.

𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀:
Concrete-heavy, tree-light urban planning compounds El Niño heatwaves, straining power grids and worsening the warming cycle.

𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻-𝗟𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲:
Shifting from passive vulnerability to a citizen-led movement where resilience begins at the doorstep—utilizing Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and ward committees for local preparedness.

𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
Local bodies like Panchayats can revive the discipline of protecting water bodies, while schools and colleges can actively track and nurture tree planting initiatives.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
Household actions fixing leaks, rainwater harvesting, choosing ceiling fans over ACs, and managing energy use are vital climate policies at the individual level.

𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 & 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀:
Harnessing traditional Indian concepts like ritucharya (living in step with the seasons) and lokasamgraha (welfare of the world) to foster sustainable consumer behavior and climate ethics.

𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 & 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀:
Media professionals, teachers, and youth groups must translate climate awareness into localized, actionable community responses rather than succumbing to alarmism or apathy.

Opinion Poll
Hi all,

We conducted a poll this morning about your preparation schedule.

Many students are lacking behind their schedule and many don't even have one.

And the biggest issue is making a schedule that is simply not practical.

Keeping in mind all these dimensions, Ayush Sir conducted a session on a practical UPSC 2027 study plan to complete the syllabus, revise effectively and prepare for Prelims and Mains together.

Here is the link to the YT session.

Hi all,

I found an article in The Hindu today that is relevant for UPSC

Continuing our Key Environment Jargons Series

Today the word is Zoopharmacognosy.

Ever wondered how animals treat their own illnesses?

Zoopharmacognosy is the process by which non-human animals instinctively self-medicate using plants, soils, insects, or fungi to treat or prevent diseases.

Key Points

Biodiversity Loss:
Deforestation doesn't just reduce food; it destroys the "natural pharmacies" wildlife rely on.

Ethnobotany:
Many human medicines were discovered by observing these exact animal behaviors.

Examples:

Chimpanzees: Swallow rough Aspilia leaves whole. The chemical thiarubrine-A acts as an anthelmintic to expel intestinal worms.

African Elephants: Pregnant females eat Ehretia cymosa leaves to induce labor.

Macaws: Eat riverbank clay (Geophagy) to neutralize toxic alkaloids found in unripe seeds.

Wood Ants: Use conifer resin (rich in terpenes) in their nests for its antimicrobial properties against fungi/bacteria.

Capuchin Monkeys: Rub crushed millipedes on their fur the toxic benzoquinones act as a potent mosquito repellent.

During a violent protest, a District Magistrate orders the police to use tear gas to disperse a mob that is threatening to burn down a public hospital.

The tear gas causes severe respiratory distress to a few elderly protesters, but the hospital and its hundreds of patients are saved.

Which ethical philosophy best justifies the DM's decision?

And I want to make sure that not only Socio but also your GS is THHHHE BEST and super fun to study

I have taken a few steps for that:

- Made all Socio pre-recorded batches as Socio Plus batches (where I have added GS content in our Socio batches where Socio overlaps with GS and helps get us more marks in Mains)

- Giving students tasks in Offline/Live classes which is making their entire prep more aware, engaging and rank oriented

Guys, sirf concepts samjhnaa shall NOT be the end goal

Retaining them
Using them

Will get us ranks

And I will do just that 😊

The 1991 crisis wasn't just a moment of panic it was the catalyst that dismantled decades of red tape and forged a modern Indian economy.

𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟏 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭:
A severe 7.6% fiscal deficit and depleted forex reserves (barely enough for two weeks of imports) triggered a massive Balance of Payments crisis.

𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬:
The 1991 Budget slashed import duties, scrapped industrial licensing, allowed 51% FDI, and launched PSU disinvestment.

𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬:
These decisive moves delivered decades of strong GDP growth that far outpaced pre-reform levels.

𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠:
Recent years have seen policy reversals, including tariff hikes since 2018 and political roadblocks slowing comprehensive progress.

𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡:
India must revive its original reformist zeal, ensure institutional independence, and expand reforms to critical sectors like health, education, and justice delivery.
