Why are anti-cruelty protections (like Section 85 BNS) applied by SCI only to live-in relationships "in the nature of marriage" rather than all cohabiting couples?
If two people share a home and build a life together, should a missing piece of paper mean the law won't protect them from abuse?
𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
The Supreme Court extended Section 498A IPC (now Section 85 BNS) anti-cruelty provisions to live-in relationships considered "in the nature of marriage".
𝐉𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Following precedents like D. Velusamy (2010) and Indra Sarma (2013), the judiciary affirms that consenting adults have a constitutional right to cohabit.
𝐍𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Protection is restricted to relationships with permanence, shared domestic life, and mutual commitment to prevent penal provision misuse.
𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐞:
Rights stem from human dignity rather than formal labels, requiring legal protections to adapt to evolving social realities.
𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Parliament should enact a comprehensive legal framework to clearly define rights, obligations, and evidentiary standards for live-in relationships.

What happens when our endless digital lives start consuming more electricity and water than our actual cities?

The 2026 Union Budget proposes a 20-year tax holiday for foreign cloud providers to position India as a global digital data traffic hub.

Massive AI investments by companies like Google and Amazon are driving projected electricity demand from data centres to 26.3 GW by 2031-32.

Data centres are adopting direct-to-chip liquid cooling and independent clean energy sources like compact nuclear reactors to counter high water and power consumption.

Day 18 Sleepy CSAT PYQ Series Today, we will be looking at a P&C question. We alternate between RC, LR and Quant PYQs in this series. Try to solve it. Solutions will be provided later today.
Solution to Today's CSAT PYQ
This was a basic P&C question.
2 steps.
1) We just consider [QU] to be one entity
2) We should know that when arranging items, if a certain entity is repeated, we divide the total permutations (the numerator) by the factorial of that repetition's frequency.
Here E occurs twice
So we divide by 2!
Answer is 12
