India's elderly population is growing but it is also feminizing.

By 2050 elderly women will outnumber men.

India's elderly population above 60 is projected to reach 20.8 percent by 2050 with elderly women outnumbering men and facing higher vulnerabilities.

​𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗩𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲
Nearly 68.2 percent of women aged 60 to 75 are illiterate and lack independent income while only 7.8 percent of formerly organized sector women receive pensions.

​𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆
National Social Assistance Programme pensions are critically low at Rs 200 to 500 monthly causing massive interstate disparities while newer welfare schemes overlook older women

​𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗕𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁
Despite heavy contributions through agriculture MGNREGS and unpaid care work elderly women remain ignored in policy discourse

​𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱
Introduce an inflation indexed universal social pension and establish comprehensive healthcare nutrition and social protection programs for elderly women in rural areas.
