One extra episode every week on Patreon - vk.cc/arpzr8 Please, read this. Hello. If the podcast was helpful for you, I ask you to give some money to a charity. I truly believe we can make a better world with less cynicism and egoism. You can handle several days without coffee. However, that money REALLY can help. Even a few dollars. Where to send and how much is only on you. Children, nature, homeless people. All problems are more real and nearer than you think. Just be a good person. Be a real hero. Peace.
I had a dream that seemed like it might be a metaphor for our network somehow.

Little bits of a fantasy world full of dangers were bleeding into our own. It started with art morphing into real people who fell out of the paintings.

Then knights popping out of thin air running full tilt with their swords out at whoever happened to be standing there, witch people and people who were rabid, like zombies.

A lot of them were wearing quite nondescript clothes, so it was hard to tell at first glance who was from our world and who wasn't.

So every person you encountered could be one of them.

People were trying to get to the nearest subway station to get out of the area.

I realised that a good strategy was to pretend to be rabid myself, since it scared off people from both worlds.

One old lady saw right through it and said something like "yes hello dear" to me, which I thought was sweet.

I started going down some steps, only to be faced with a group coming up. They had a rabid man by both arms and were dragging him up the stairs as he struggled and growled. I started growling myself and advancing on the group, which started backing down the stairs in front of me. I rapidly realised this wasn't the best idea, but didn't know what else to do, so kept going.

It was like two dogs facing off in the park.

Then the group had the bright idea to let go of the man they were holding and let him and me fight to the death.

Both of us rushed at each other's faces. I had no idea how I was going to handle this.

Then both of us at the last second dropped the act, gave each other a peck on the lips and walked past each other. He'd been doing the same thing I was doing.

I was left facing the group, said "I'm sorry about that" in a very British way, they all just started laughing with relief, and we proceeded together to the subway.

The weird thing about this dream is that normally I only have two speeds when there's peril in dreams, "heroic" and "run away".

In this dream I was so focused on self-preservation that I was not only deceiving and scaring other survivors rather than trying to help them, but also got stuck in that mode even when it was completely pointless and self-defeating (it should have been clear that the group coming up the stairs weren't a threat other than the man they were holding, so it would have made more sense to help them or at least get out of their way).

"Chapter 25 further states that trauma involves a particular decomposition of the personality. This view is extended and detailed in Chapter 26. It analyzes three prototypical conscious and self-conscious dissociative subsystems or ‘parts.’ Each strives to persevere in their existence in their own way.

‘Apparently normal parts’ (ANPs) primarily aim to achieve the goals of common life. ‘Fragile emotional parts’ (fragile EPs) primarily defend the basic integrity of life amid a devastating umwelt. [A.k.a., 'daily-life self' - Internal Family Systems / Janina Fisher; what Jung called ego-consciousness ]

‘Controlling emotional parts’ (controlling EPs) primarily strive to generate and maintain a sense of personal power, of shin- ing autonomy. [Called Exile or wounded parts in Internal Family Systems]

To achieve their aims ANPs [everyday life selves] strive to ignore the phenomenal selves and worlds of the EPs. They strive to feel, know, and/or realize it as little as possible. In the attempt to delimit their fragility, ignoring (e.g., mentally avoiding) EPs is a form of control.

Although fragile EPs feel and know themselves to be fragile, they long and strive to defend their very existence. Their defensive actions or passions involve a form of control. Stuck in the dreadful past, however, they remain more or less ignorant of the actual present in terms of the third-person’s conception of chronological time, place, and the unity the fragile EPs are a part of.

Controlling EPs share this ignorance and try to ignore their fragility. They strive to control their life and their umwelt. [Similar to Manager / Protector / maybe Firefighter parts in Internal Family Systems]

Being prototypes, traumatized individuals can encompass both mixtures and variations of these three prototypes."

The Trinity of Trauma: Ignorance, Fragility, and Control, Volume 3 - Enactive Trauma Therapy by Ellert R. S. Nijenhuis
"Chapter 26 also proposes that most, if not basically all, dissociative parts include more than one mental and behavioral state. These ‘states’ are described as ‘modes of longing and striving.’ It also makes the point that there are important differences between modes of longing and striving some authors refer to as ‘ego-states’ and dissociative parts. These differences are clinically as well as scientifically relevant.

Chapter 27 proposes that, like traumatized individuals as a unity, dissociative parts constitute operationally autonomous systems. Operationally autonomous systems are constantly being challenged to engage in a variety of actions (and passions) to continue their existence. This striving is their primary urge.

In this context, these systems generate and signify a self, a world, as well as intrinsic relationships of this self and this umwelt.

No matter how simple or complex, autonomous systems operate under precarious conditions: They perish if they fail to engage in the actions that generate and maintain their self, their world, and their dialectical self-world relationships. Dissociative parts, then, continuously bring forth, that is, enact and reenact, their particular self, umwelt and dialectical self-umwelt relationships.

Enactive trauma therapy is the endeavor to invite and encourage traumatized individuals at large as well as each of their dissociative parts to substitute their problematic or harmful actions and passions for more useful actions. Among other things, enactive trauma clinicians thus stimulate them to exchange such passions as reenactments of traumatizing events and relationships for more profitable actions."
This Hairless Mexican Dog Has a Storied, Ancient Past

With a history going back more than 3,500 years, the xoloitzcuintli dog played a significant role in Precolumbian life.

BY KRISTIN ROMEY

PUBLISHED NOVEMBER 22, 2017

To the ancient Aztec and Maya, man's best friend was also a hairless, ugly-cute healer, occasional food source, and, most importantly, guide to the Underworld.

Sometimes known as the Mexican Hairless dog, the xoloitzcuintli (pronounced "show-low-itz-QUEENT-ly") gets its name from two words in the language of the Aztecs: Xolotl, the god of lightning and death, and itzcuintli, or dog. According to Aztec belief, the Dog of Xolotl was created by the god to guard the living and guide the souls of the dead through the dangers of Mictlán, the Underworld.

One of the most ancient dog breeds of the Americas, researchers believe the ancestors of the xoloitzcuintli (or 'xolo' for short) accompanied the earliest migrants from Asia and had developed into the breed seen today by at least 3,500 years ago. The xolo's hairlessness (save for a tuft or two of hair on top of the head or on the tail) is the result of a genetic mutation that is also responsible for the dog's lack of premolars. This distinctive dental trait makes identifying the remains of xolos in archaeological contexts relatively easy.

Ceramic vessels in the shape of xolo dogs are frequently found in 2,000-year-old tombs in western Mexico.

Xolos appear in ancient Mesoamerican art often with pointed ears and wrinkly skin to indicate their hairlessness. The most frequent depictions take the form of small ceramic vessels known as Colima Dogs for the modern state in western Mexico where they are commonly found. In Colima and the neighboring states of Nayarit and Jalsico, archaeologists estimate that more than 75 percent of burials from the Preclassic period (ca. 300 B.C to A.D. 300) contain these vessels, which may have served as symbolic dog guides to help the soul of the dead travel through the Underworld.

These hairless canines also caught the eye of European chroniclers such as Christopher Columbus and the 16th-century Spanish missionary Bernadino de Sahagún, who describes how the Aztecs would tuck xolos in blankets at night to keep them warm. The dogs' fur-free bodies also serve as excellent heat conductors, making them a kind of ancient hot-water bottle for the ill and the elderly. "They know when you're sick," observes Kay Lawson, a 20-year xolo breeder and past president of the Xoloitzcuintli Club of America. "They zero right in to where it hurts."

The xoloitzcuintli was nearly eaten into extinction by hungry Spanish settlers.

Along with turkeys, xolos were one of the only domesticated animals eaten by ancient Mesoamericans. The conquistadors developed such an appetite for the convenient canine protein source when they arrived in the New World that they nearly ate the xoloitzcuintli into oblivion, says archaeologist Marc Thompson, director of the Tijeras Pueblo Museum.

By the time the xolo was officially recognized in Mexico in 1956, the breed was nearly extinct. Today, however, these ancient dogs are experiencing a revival, especially among people who are allergic to their furry counterparts. But they're not for everyone, Lawson warns.

"You really have to be thinking [with xolos] all the time," she says. "They open doors, they open crates. This is a primitive dog. They're extremely intelligent."
