If you are short term trader
Stock Selection matters a lot

1. Dont Select stocks that are UNDERPERFORMING .
Use Relative Strength Indicator
(not RSI)
2. Select stocks in uptrend, making new Highs , new aths
3. Select stocks which have not fallen more than 15% from recent high

I use 4 levels of stock selection criteria:

1) Basic: Price, volume
2) Technical: Relative strength, trend, chart pattern
3) Fundamental: EPS growth, sales growth
4) Story: Innovation, disruption

That all helps me to the number of stocks I am monitoring at a manageable level.
