HB 88 (requires citizenship for tax payer benefits) passed out of committee today with both democrats and Melissa Ballard a republican voting NO. The constituents of Melissa Ballard need to send her a text and let her know that she isn't representing them by rewarding people coming here illegally and discriminating against citizens that are paying taxes and in many cases aren't receiving these benefits themselves. As is usually the case the bigger test will be getting it through the senate.
Courtroom Audiovisual Modifications H.B. 397 SUPPORT
requires the Administrative Office of the Courts to create an audiovisual recording of
each livestream and make the recording freely available for public observation; and
▸makes technical and conforming changes
This is a great judicial reform bill. With the tech we have now days there should be a recording of every court hearing.
This bill is still in rules. It has to get moving if it is going to pass.

This is from the Public Interest Legal Foundation. This is a very important Supreme Court case taking place.
New SCOTUS brief argues for a balance between Election Day deadlines and overseas ballots. This week, PILF explained to the Supreme Court how to strike the balance: “Federal law establishes a uniform Election Day for federal offices in order to promote finality, public confidence, and administrable election rules. That uniformity is undermined when States extend ballot receipt beyond Election Day, effectively prolonging federal elections after voting has concluded ... [E]nforcing the federal Election Day statutes does not threaten military or overseas voting.

Thank you to Rep Auxier for running the bill about employers checking immigration status. It originally was for 50 or more employees and it was changed to 100. It passed out of the house committee this week.

It is important that everyone hears about this. My mom said someone knocked on her door and tried to get her to sign something. The person at the door said that the other thing she signed was fraudulent. If she doesn't want gerrymandering she needed to sign. My mom didn't feel good about it and said she wasn't going to sign something else. She called me and told me what happened. I told her it was definitely good she didn't sign that because they were trying to get her to remove her name from getting Prop 4 on the ballot for the people to decide if we agree with the Utah Constitution and for the legislature to make the congressional maps. Be aware that this is going on!

Did you know developers can use a public infrastructure districts (PID) to pay for their privately owned buildings? This is the fleecing of the Utah Tax Payer. A PID allows developers to roll their costs for infrastructure into debt that the home owners pay back. This was created in 2019 by SB 228. Before then developers had upfront costs that were part of developing land. The free market allowed developers the opportunity to make very high profits, but part of doing business was the upfront costs of infrastructure. Included in that bill was the ability to roll privately owned buildings into the debt tax payers pay back. This is the exploitation of the Utah tax payer. Here is the Utah code section:
Utah Code § 17D-4-102 (14)
