Hi Everyone,
We have a situation we must help with. HB 479 requires Voter ID. This bill is essential for our elections. Rep Peck just told me they are hardly getting any texts to support the bill. They need more back up from the citizens. Please text the following committee members. If you can only text two that is just fine. Text a couple and it all adds up. Let them know we want Voter ID.
Rep Watkins 435-650-1969
Rep Shelley 801-641-0207
Rep Albrecht 435-979-6578
Casey Snider 435-770-4081
Walt Brooks 435-817-3530
Rep Shipp 435-590-1073
Rep Chew 435-630-0221
Rep Peck 801-554-4434

I am at the committee hearing for the Voter ID bill. Rep Burton is presenting. He said that 83% of citizens want voter ID.
Rep Burton is doing a very good job. One of the reps is asking about the rural voter and how it will impact them. Rep Burton said it doesn't have to impact them very much at all. They don't have to use a drop box if they don't want to. It is very important to get Voter ID into the code.
I am still here. Now we are having public comment. There were a lot of people that wanted to comment. They did five for the bill and five against. I was able to comment on behalf of the citizens. The opposition keeps saying it will disenfranchise voters when the bill doesn't force anyone to do anything. If you want to use the dropbox and show your ID you can, but you can still vote by mail without having to use ID. People are saying the disabled won't be able to vote. This bill won't change anything for the disabled. They have special privileges carved out in code.
They are voting now. They are doing a voice vote. Watkins was the only Republican to vote no. The vote was 8-3. It passed!

This is the update from Rep Trevor Lee's intern. This bill is HB 88 that requires citizenship for tax payer benefits.
Ok so I’ve been hearing that many of those reps we’ve been emailing have been getting a ton of emails in support of our bill! So we’re planning on moving to uncircle the bill today. Rep Lee asked me if I could send around the following document for one final effort to get support. If you have some time today to send out any more emails that would be great.
We need your help getting HB88 PASSED!
Send an email to those who are a ‘maybe’ on supporting HB88
- Ex. “Please put me and my family first before illegal aliens! It’s good policy
Jill Koford - jkoford@le.utah.gov
Stewart E. Barlow - sbarlow@le.utah.gov
Mike L. Kohler -mkohler@le.utah.gov
Bridger Bolinder -bbolinder@le.utah.gov
Val L. Peterson - vpeterson@le.utah.gov
Jordan D. Teuscher -jteuscher@le.utah.gov

Very happy that HB 479 Voter ID for drop boxes passed out of the house committee on Wednesday. We were there until 7:00 pm. They allowed five people to testify in support and I was able to be one of them. Rep Burton is the sponsor and in the gray suit. The big question is if we can get it through the senate.
Today, the Justice Department’s @CivilRights Division announced it has filed federal lawsuits against five states — Utah, Oklahoma, Kentucky, West Virginia, and New Jersey — for failure to produce their full voter registration lists upon request.
I can tell you Utah has some of the most restricted voter rolls in the country. I am certain there are thousands of anomalies on our rolls.

I am back at the Capitol in the House Economic Development and workforce Services standing Committee. Right now HB 584 State Employee Leave Amendments is being discussed. This bill allows a state employee to cash in half of their sick days at retirement. This can be a retention tool for state employees. This bill just passed out of committee.
