The book Visions of Freedom by Groote and Fox talk about each signer of the Declaration of Independence. Today I will feature Samuel Adams. He was known as the mastermind behind the opposition to British rule in America. Adams was a failure in business but he was extraordinary in politics and political writing. He introduced a resolution on June 17th 1774 calling for a Continental Congress so the colonies could communicate. This was an essential part of the events leading to the Declaration of Independence. Adams died penniless in Boston on Sunday, October 2nd, 1803, but John Adams, his cousin said "Without the character of Samuel Adams, the true history of the American revolution can never be written." Thank you to Samuel Adams!

Shane Manwaring is running for sheriff in Salt Lake County. He said he is a combat veteran. He has deployed six times. He retired as a Full Bird Colonel. He has great leadership experience. He is currently a police officer. He said our streets are not safe and he doesn't recognize this city. He never thought he would run for office, but he feels compelled to stand up for this county and our Constitution.
This is Riley Owen running for CD 1. He comes from seven generations of Utahns. He grew up in Los Angeles. He studied at Princeton and Oxford. He has been in many progressive environments, but has stayed true to his conservative roots. He has worked to create private businesses. He is concerned about the expansion of the executive branch. If it isn't an enumerated power than it belongs to the states!
Chris Null is running for the Salt Lake County Council. He worked hard to help protect the caucus convention system. He will always push back against SB 54 that created the signature path. There are too many duplicate services between the county and the cities. There is a lot more efficiency that should be implemented.
Senator Dan McKay passed SB 228 in 2019 that created Public Infrastructure Districts. These allow developers to push their upfront costs onto home owners. They create massive profits for the developer and a PID tax or second property tax on home owners.
SB 228 also allows developers to have homeowners pay for their privately owned buildings through PID taxes as long as it is in the governing document of the PID.

Senator Dan McCay was also an integral part of the passage of SB 54 run in 2014 which allowed for signature gathering to get on the ballot. He was the floor sponsor. Signature gathering has had serious ramifications on this state by creating signature verification within elections which is an inherently flawed process and has opened the door to numerous election integrity issues.

Utah Citizens for the Constitution assert that both of these bills have had a substantial deleterious impact on Utah.
