📜📝6 February 1515. Italic (corsivo), the font type I'm using now to write this post, a standard way all over the world to emphasise key points in a printed text: the person who invented this font type was of course Italian 🇮🇹 and passed away in Venice on this day in 1515!
His name was Aldo Manuzio (internationally Aldus Manutius), born and raised near Rome where he studied to become one of the first press publisher ever: he moved to Venice invited by the Doge of the time and opened a printing press in Campo Sant'Agostin, #SanPolo district.
At the time (end 1400) books were still huge and heavy, #Manuzio printed all Greek and Latin classics using this new font which was smaller than the existing handtypes and allowed to create portable books! 📘📚📖👏
In Venice he founded the "Edizioni Aldine", the most legendary and sought after book editions: scholars, philosophers and writers all over Europe contacted Manuzio to print their works, Erasmus from Rotterdam was his most prolific client.
