FED MINUTES: MOST OFFICIALS SEE ANOTHER RATE HIKE BY YEAR-END

All Fed participants backed September’s 25bp rate hike, while most judged another increase would likely be appropriate by year-end, minutes show.

Almost all saw inflation risks tilted to the upside, with some warning the AI investment boom could push demand beyond supply and add inflation pressure.

Officials generally viewed the labor market as near full employment, while financial conditions remained supportive despite higher Treasury yields.

CAPITAL ECONOMICS: CENTRAL BANKS MAY HIKE LESS THAN MARKETS EXPECT

Capital Economics says central banks are unlikely to raise rates as far as investors currently price over the next year.

While elevated bond yields have tightened financial conditions, much of that tightening reflects expectations for higher policy rates and could reverse if central banks don’t deliver.

The firm expects energy prices to fall next year, limiting second-round inflation effects and reducing the need for additional tightening.

SYRIA WEIGHS MILITARY SUPPORT FOR SAUDI ARABIA AGAINST HOUTHIS

Syria is considering providing military assistance to Saudi Arabia as the kingdom battles Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, according to U.S. and Syrian officials.

Options reportedly include defensive support against missile and drone attacks or deploying Syrian forces alongside Saudi-backed Yemeni troops.

A U.S. official says Riyadh has requested Syrian forces, but Damascus says its primary focus remains domestic recovery and any cooperation would proceed through official channels.
