Cambodia should consider coffee and cocoa as strategic crops for highland agricultural areas, especially where rice production is low. In Kampong Chhnang, the delegation found conditions favourable for cocoa cultivation. Observations indicate cocoa can be planted at around 1,000 to 1,100 trees per hectare, with trees potentially producing an average of 20 kg annually.
At a fresh cocoa price of approximately 1,200 riel per kilogramme, estimated annual revenue could reach between 24 million and 26 million riel per hectare, according to the study.

Beyond expanding processing capabilities, the initiative aims to catalyse investment and technology transfer. Consequently, it will drive job creation and foster sustainable value addition throughout the Kingdom’s cashew sector.
To address the gap, Australia is partnering with Olam Food Ingredients (OFI), a global agribusiness company with an estimated 20 and 25 percent share of the global cashew market. The partnership aims to expand Cambodia’s processing capacity to 80 tonnes per day and mobilise up to $10 million in investment in the domestic cashew processing sector.
According to the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC), Cambodia exported around 1.03 million tonnes of raw cashew nuts during the first half of 2026, generating approximately $1.75 billion in export revenue, up 28.9 percent from the same period last year.
