Giving Charity on Fridays

● Ka'b al-Ahbar (rahimahullah) said:

The sun has neither risen nor set on a day greater than the day of Friday,

and charity given on it is greater than on other days.

[Sahih Musannaf of 'Abd Ar-Razzaq (rahimahullah), 5558]

● al-A‘mash narrated from Mujahid, from ‘Abdullah ibn Damrah,

from Ka‘b (rahimahumullah) who said:

Charity is multiplied on Friday.

[Musannaf ibn Abi Shaybah, 2/57, no. 6, Maktabah Islamiyyah]

● Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

Giving charity on Friday has a special merit compared to other days,

just as giving charity during the month of Ramadan has a higher merit compared to the rest of the year.

I witnessed Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah)

when he would go out for Jumuaah,

he would take whatever he found at home—be it bread or anything else—and give it as charity in secret on his way.

I heard him say:

“If Allah commanded us to give charity before consulting with the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) (58:12),

then giving charity before consulting with Allah is even more virtuous and deserving of merit.”

[Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah), Zaad al-Maad, 1/399]

● Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

If the one giving charity

knew

that his charity landed in the Hand of Allah,

before the hand of the poor person,

the pleasure of the giver would be greater than the pleasure of the receiver.

[Ibn ul-Qayyim (rahimahullah), paraphrased from al-Wabil al-Sayyib, al-Madarij as-Salikeen, 1/26]

Abu Huraira (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) reported Allah's Messenger (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) as saying:

No one gives sadaqah (charity) of a date out of his honest earning, except that Allah accepts it with His Right Hand, and then fosters it as one of you fosters the colt or a young she-camel, till it becomes like a mountain or even greater.

[Sahih Muslim, 1014b, Book 12, Hadith 80]

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said:

“Charity (sadaqah) reaches (lit. falls into) the Hand of Allah before it falls into the hand of the one who asks for it.” (i.e., Allah Ta’ala accepts it), he (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) then recited the Verse:

{(Do they not know that Allah) accepts repentance from His servants and takes their charities”}
— Surah Tawbah, 9:104

[Tafsir at-Tabari (rahimahullah); Jami’ul Bayan, Surah Tawbah, Verse: 104, vol. 11, pg. 666, see also: Majma az-Zawaid, vol. 3, pg. 111, Hadith: 4677]

Abu Hurairah (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) narrated that :

the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

"Indeed Allah accepts charity, and He accepts it with His Right (Hand) to nurture it for one of you, just like one of you would nurture his foal, until the bite (of food) becomes as large as Uhud."

[Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 662, Chapter 28: What Has Been Related About the Virtue of Charity, Graded: Hasan Sahih]

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyAllahu ‘anhu):

"Indeed, charity* (sadaqah) reaches (lit. falls into) the Hand of Allah before it reaches the hand of the one who asks,"

then he recited:

{And He it is Who accepts repentance* from His servants}
— ash-Shura: 25, the verse.

Connection between Maintaining Ties of the Kinship and Rizq (provision)

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said:

Indeed, some people maintain ties of kinship while they are sinful, and so their wealth increases and their numbers multiply.

And indeed, a people may sever ties of kinship while they are righteous, so their numbers decrease and their wealth diminishes. This is due to the abundance of mercy that reaches those (sinful ones who maintain ties of kinship) and the scant share of it that reaches to these (who do not maintain ties of kinship).

[Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah), al-Sawa’iq al-Mursalah]
Abu Hurairah (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,

"He who recites after every prayer:

Subhan-Allah (Allah is free from imperfection) thirty-three times;

Al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allah) thirty-three times;

Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greatest) thirty-three times;

and completes the hundred with: La ilaha illallahu, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa 'ala kulli shai'in Qadir (there is no true god except Allah. He is One and He has no partner with Him. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Omnipotent),

will have all his sins pardoned even if they may be as large as the foam on the surface of the sea."

[Muslim, Riyad as-Salihin, 1419
In-Book Reference: Book 15, Hadith 12]
Sadaqaat

Those who are misers and enjoin upon people miserliness (Allah is not in need of their charity).

And whosoever turns away (from Faith Allah's Monotheism), then Allah is Rich (Free of all wants), Worthy of all praise.

[Surah Hadid, 57:24]

Know they not that Allah accepts repentance from His slaves and takes the Sadaqat (alms, charities) and that Allah Alone is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most Merciful?

If you see or hear of someone calling for goodness and spreading the Sunnah, then honor their matter greatly (hold them in high esteem) and pray for them. Set aside the desires of the self and do not diminish/belittle those who have risen (been elevated), and ask Allah to let you follow in their footsteps.

Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullah):

No slave of Allah commits a sin except that a blessing from Allah is removed from him equal to that sin.

If he repents, that blessing will return to him along with other blessings,

and if he persists upon the sin, the blessing will not return to him.

Sins continue to remove blessing after blessing, until all the blessings are gone.

So whosoever lowers his gaze from the unlawful for the sake of Allāh, the Mighty and Magnificent, He will replace it with something better than it of the same type.

So just as the servant restrained the light of his eye from falling upon the unlawful, Allāh blesses the light of his sight and heart thereby making him perceive what he would not have seen and understood had he not lowered his gaze.

Oh Miskeen!

You're Immoral yet you see yourself as Righteous!

You're Ignorant and you see yourself as Knowledgeable!

You're Materialistic and yet you see yourself as Generous!

You're Foolish and you see yourself as Wise!

Time for you is short, and your expectations are
(irrationally) long!

In the heart of every human being, there is a sense of scattering which can only be gathered by turning to Allah.

And in the heart there is a sense of loneliness which can only be dismissed by being close to Allah.

And in the heart there is fear and anxiety, which can only be removed by fleeing to Allah.

And in the heart there is a sense of regret, which can only be removed by being satisfied with Allah.

[Uddat as-Sabirīn wa Dhakirāt ash-Shakirīn by Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahillāh)]
{أَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَسَالَتْ أَوْدِيَةٌ بِقَدَرِهَا فَاحْتَمَلَ السَّيْلُ زَبَدًا رَّابِيًا وَمِمَّا يُوقِدُونَ عَلَيْهِ فِي النَّارِ ابْتِغَاءَ حِلْيَةٍ أَوْ مَتَاعٍ زَبَدٌ مِّثْلُهُ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْحَقَّ وَالْبَاطِلَ فَأَمَّا الزَّبَدُ فَيَذْهَبُ جُفَاءً وَأَمَّا مَا يَنفَعُ النَّاسَ فَيَمْكُثُ فِي الْأَرْضِ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْأَمْثَالَ}

T1:
He sends down water from the cloud, then watercourses flow (with water) according to their measure, and the torrent bears along the swelling foam, and from what they melt in the fire for the sake of making ornaments or apparatus arises a scum like it; thus does Allah compare truth and falsehood; then as for the scum, it passes away as a worthless thing; and as for that which profits the people, it tarries in the earth; thus does Allah set forth parables.

T2:
He sends down water (rain) from the sky, and the valleys flow according to their measure, but the flood bears away the foam that mounts up to the surface, and (also) from that (ore) which they heat in the fire in order to make ornaments or utensils, rises a foam like unto it, thus does Allah (by parables) show forth truth and falsehood. Then, as for the foam it passes away as scum upon the banks, while that which is for the good of mankind remains in the earth. Thus Allah sets forth parables (for the truth and falsehood, i.e. Belief and disbelief).

T3:
[Whenever] He sends down water from the sky, and [once-dry] river-beds are running high according to their measure, the stream carries scum on its surface; and, likewise, from that [metal] which they smelt in the fire in order to make ornaments or utensils, [there rises] scum. In this way does God set forth the parable of truth and falsehood: for, as far as the scum is concerned, it passes away as [does all] dross; but that which is of benefit to man abides on earth. In this way does God set forth the parables

I spent some time in the city of Makkah whilst frequently experiencing illness that I could not find a doctor for nor a remedy, so I would treat myself with the opening chapter of the Qur’an (Surah Fatihah), and I would find that it had an amazing effect.

So I would prescribe this to those who complain of an ailment and many of them would be swiftly cured.¹
