US approves Patriot missiles sale to Ukraine

The US State Department has green lit a $2.1 billion Patriot missile sale to Ukraine. The announcement follows a report by CNN earlier this month that Kiev had completely exhausted its stockpile of US made interceptors used to defend against Russian missile and drone strikes at military related targets.

The State Department said in a statement on Friday that the Ukrainian government had requested that Washington sell it 500 Patriot PAC-3 missiles and spare parts for launchers. Kiev will pay for the interceptors with funds donated by Canada, Germany, and Norway, the State Department said.

At least we're "open to dialogue" though, so that's good.

Pentagon facing up to $15 bn in Iran war base damages

Iranian missile and drone strikes have inflicted up to $15 billion in damage on military installations hosting American forces across the Middle East, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing sources and its own satellite imagery analysis. The massive destruction adds to the Pentagon's mounting war bill, which has already reached nearly $50 billion.

The newspaper's analysis identified a total of 274 damaged structures across 24 installations with an American military presence. At least 119 buildings at 13 installations were damaged in the opening two weeks alone; the US Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain was among the hardest hit. Tehran launched a retaliatory wave of strikes following the unprovoked US Israeli attack which started the conflict on February 28.

Canada's largest labor federation votes to block arms shipments bound for Israel

In a statement published on October 28, the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), which represents some 3 million workers, called on its members to block the handling of all weapons and military equipment passing through Canada to Israel.

"The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) Canadian Council has voted in support of a resolution calling on workers to refuse to handle weapons and military equipment destined for Israel," the statement reads.

The CLC added that it "stands in solidarity with Palestinian workers and their families, and with all those calling for peace, justice and respect for international law."

US midterms to become most expensive election ever

The US midterm elections are on track to becoming the most costly in history, with campaign spending expected to reach almost $12 billion.

The figure should surpass the previous record of $8.9 billion, set during the midterms in 2022, by at least by $2 billion, the OpenSecrets monitoring group said after analyzing the Federal Election Commission’s disclosure data.

Democratic candidates have outspent their Republican rivals by $5.5 billion to $5.1 billion. Third party candidates have spent another $1.3 billion, it said.

Most of the spending came from outside political groups, dubbed Super Political Action Committees (Super PACS), backing the two parties, according to the monitor.

Iranian FM says Tehran pursuing regional security framework "free of foreign influence"

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on 3 November that Tehran is pursuing a regional security framework built by West Asian countries, free of any foreign military presence.
