Gold opened last week near $4,030 and finished around a seven-week high after the macro picture shifted fast. A weak US jobs report cooled expectations for another rate hike, Treasury yields eased, the dollar softened, and bullion delivered its strongest week since January.

Franco-Nevada built a gold giant by arriving before the gold.

A mine needs capital years before an ounce reaches the market. Franco-Nevada deploys that capital through royalty and streaming agreements. Royalties tie payments to mine revenue. Streams secure the right to purchase part of future production on agreed terms.

“Gold has even now but a few years to live.”

Thomas Edison said this in 1911 while imagining what the world would look like a century later.

To give him credit, several of his predictions were remarkably close. He anticipated routine air travel at 200 miles per hour, high-speed electric trains, increasingly automated production, and even the ability to carry an entire library in one compact object. He imagined pages made from nickel rather than a screen, but the underlying idea was there.

Then he made a much bolder prediction.

Edison believed humanity would soon learn to manufacture gold from ordinary metals. Gold would become as common and cheap as iron. Ships, taxis, and furniture could eventually be made from it.

The official US price of gold was $20.67 per ounce at the time.

In 2025, global gold demand exceeded 5,000 tonnes, while the metal recorded 53 new all-time highs.

Edison understood how radically technology could reshape the world. He underestimated one thing. Every generation imagines a new future for money, and gold keeps showing up in it.

Edison expected technology to make gold ordinary. A century later, technology has changed how people can access it.
