𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 🚀

At the American Concrete Institute (Singapore Chapter)’s 40th Anniversary Seminar, BCA’s Commissioner of Building Control and Group Director for Building Resilience Group, Er. Thanabal Kaliannan, reaffirmed our shared commitment with industry professionals to advance a safe, sustainable and resilient BE sector.

💡 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫:

➡️Widespread adoption of 100mm cube testing and the use of granite fines are helping reduce material use and transport needs, with no compromise on strength or accuracy.

➡️ Reducing redundant trial and slump tests based on proven data means greater productivity, less waste, and faster outcomes.

➡️ Real-time monitoring of concrete properties, such as the consistence and strength development of concrete, is enhancing our quality control and sustainability performance.

Every improvement starts with collaboration.

Congratulations to SCAL for hosting the inaugural 𝐇𝐑 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐁𝐄) 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲. The Forum, organised in collaboration with BCA and WSG, and supported by Construction Industry Joint Committee (CIJC) partners across the BE value chain, marked a significant milestone in the industry's increasingly collaborative landscape.

🙌 It brought more than 60 firms and 140 participants together from various stakeholder groups to look into how industry can build a skilled, engaged, and future-ready workforce in today’s challenging labour market.

Insights were shared to address critical areas of talent attraction and retention to enhance HR practices across the BE industry. Special thanks to the speakers from Wee Hur Construction Pte Ltd, HSC Pipeline Engineering, and Arup.

Arup also shared insights on cultivating strong workplace culture and positive environments as part of 𝐁𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 to boost employee retention and productivity.

BCA-SCAL Seminar 2025
Over 150 industry leaders gathered at the recent BCA-SCAL Seminar and Technology Showcase, to share and learn about innovative solutions designed to drive efficiency, competitiveness, and productivity in the built environment.

Underscoring the significance of Advanced Manufacturing and Assembly (AMA), the seminar covered :

• Practical implementation strategies for AMA
• Latest directions on Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA)
adoption
• Testing of waterproof integrity of mechanical joints to ensure performance and durability
• Case studies of companies implementing smart design and technologies

In SCAL's Productivity & Technology Committee Chairman, Mr Andy Lu's speech, he emphasized how enhancing productivity is critical in driving industry transformation. He cited two successful adopters of innovative solutions, who are also SCAL’s Annual Productivity Innovation Award (PIA) 2025 recipients:

• China Construction Realty Co. - Implemented Precast Lift Shaft system, that boosted productivity by 53%, reduced manpower by 56%, and cut construction time by 89%.
• Obayashi Singapore Pte Ltd - Its Innovative Prefabricated Steel Collar Formwork System, saved 1.5 days of installation per column, improving safety, and reducing complex work at height.

Participants were exposed to a showcase of technologies from industry leaders like Genios, JLFC Pte Ltd, Leviat,  Peikko APAC, Precast India Connection, and Technos Co Ltd, demonstrating productivity-enhancing solutions ready for adoption.

Driving Innovation and Technology (I&T) in the Built Environment (BE)

We're excited to share about an industry-led collaboration that's transforming how we inspect and maintain our buildings and the Built Environment (BE) sector in Singapore. As part of the Built Environment Accelerated Market Programme (BEAMP) Cycle 5, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), EnterpriseSG - Southeast Asia, and JTC Corporation have come together to support an innovative project focused on autonomous inspection of residential estate corridors.

dConstruct Robotics, in collaboration with EM Services Pte Ltd , has developed the d.ASH-ER Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR). The AMR demonstrates remarkable autonomous functionality, including the ability to navigate independently along corridors and walkways, take lifts without human intervention, and conduct 3D scanning to generate building models.

Its advanced video analytics system can identify and classify building defects and hazardous objects with up to 70% accuracy, significantly enhancing inspection efficiency and safety protocols. This allows property officers to partake in higher value tasks such as providing tele-operations and remote real-time control of robot.

This collaboration exemplifies how public-private partnerships can accelerate the adoption of transformative technologies in our BE sector. BCA will continue to foster industry-led innovation that enhances the quality, safety, and efficiency of Singapore's built environment through initiatives like BEAMP.
