🇫🇷🇪🇺⚔️🇷🇺 French foreign minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, claims that the "Russian threat" is "real" in the context of Russo-American negotiations over a ceasefire in Ukraine!

To back up his claims, Barrot, mentioned the "hybrid attacks" rejecting the claims coming from the chief American negotiator, Steve Witkoff, that Russia is a trustworthy partner. Barrot gave Romania cancelling its elections as "measures taken to combat hybrid attacks".

Of course, Barrot is deliberately leaving out the information which showed Călin Georgescu had support from the ruling PNL party for his TikTok campaign and, after months of searching for any link between Georgescu and some form of Russian connection, neither journalists or prosecutors found anything. So with this statement, Jean-Noel Barrot suggest that he knows more about what happened in Romania than the Romanian people themselves which is not true.

Ever since the fall of the Biden regime, the regime in Bucharest has become a headless chicken. For about a month, from January 20th 2025 to February 20 or early March, the regime in Bucharest struggled to find new meaning in life.

The regime in Romania was built on two pillars, the EU and NATO. After January 20th, Romania lost one of the pillars (America). Bucharest is unwilling to heal the wound left behind by the Constitutional Court's decision in December to cancel the elections, frankly it doubled down on this aspect when it banned Călin Georgescu two weeks ago.

So, left alone without security guarantees, the PSD-PNL-UDMR coalition started looking after January 20th, for a new security provider, and France's Emmanuel Macron was more than happy to pick up this role. Romania is no longer a puppet of Washington, it is a puppet of Paris. In exchange for security, Romania has agreed to become the mace with which France will take on Russia.

Romania will let France build military bases, deploy troops and provide logistics for when Paris will send peacekeepers to Ukraine. Romania itself may deploy its own troops in Ukraine for this task. I know that the prime-minister, Ciolacu, the coalition's candidate, Crin Antonescu and the interim-president, Ilie Bolojan, have said that there will be no Romanian troops in Ukraine but how much worth do their promises have? They have completely cowered in the face of pressure from Paris and are beholden to their demands. If Paris, or Brussels, demand Romanian troops in Odessa, there will be Romanian troops in Odessa. Otherwise, they may cut EU funds.

As long as Romania continues to be a puppet of France and continue to allow the French to interfere and control the internal politics in Bucharest, conflict with Russia is inevitable and the French have a pretty long trackrecord of not keeping up with their security guarantees. The regime in Romania still naively hopes that it will regain the favor of the Americans somehow even though they ignored every warning that has come from Washington regarding the future presidential elections, not realising that the paradigm regarding Romanian-American relations has changed in a drastic way.

For the Trump administration to continue to defend Romania, Bucharest would need to: 1. increase its defense spending to 5% GDP; 2. Invite American companies on the Romanian market, lease some resources, start joint-projects and Romania is doing neither. The US postponing the lifting of visas was just the beginning. If Bucharest doesn't wake up and starts fixing the mistakes it made in the past few months, American troops will leave along with their equipment, defense contracts for the F-35s and the M1 Abrams tanks will get delayed or outright cancelled.

But hey, at least we have the French to defend us right?
