That's the power of directional and horizontal drilling.
Directional drilling steers the wellbore along a planned curved path, so operators can reach targets off to the side of the rig and drill several wells from a single location.
Horizontal drilling takes it further: the well turns to run sideways through the reservoir. That exposes more of the producing zone to the wellbore, which boosts flow rates and recovery.
The result is access to hard-to-reach reservoirs, a smaller surface footprint, and more productive wells. ⛽
