MicroStrategy’s Saylor believes that governments will be the next players to buy Bitcoin

Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy, has dropped an audacious prediction on the trajectory of Bitcoin. The CEO of the business intelligence firm said that he expects governments to buy Bitcoin via sovereign wealth funds.

Comparing the performance of gold to Bitcoin, Saylor hyped the latter as the smart play. While Bitcoin has been struggling to reach new highs, gold has been on a steady decline since mid-last year.

On this note, Saylor believes that several traditional hedge funds will expose a portion of their portfolios to Bitcoin. Furthermore, he sees sovereign wealth joining the race to accumulate Bitcoin. He said:

" I think you see the existing hedge fund players double down, triple down… I think it’s inevitable that you’ll see the sovereign wealth funds. They have to move, I mean, they have infinite money, and if you’re infinite money and see the asset class coming and you see it’s the best performing asset class, your only issue is, are other people with money doing this… So, if I can point to $100bn entities that are doing this, then yeah, I kind of want in.
But not everyone agrees with Saylor. For one, Jim Rogers, chairman of Beelance Interests Inc. thinks that governments would protect and promote their own central bank digital currencies, as opposed to supporting Bitcoin, which they have very little control over."
Bitcoin Price Prediction – Bitcoin Prices reach 60K!

After a highly anticipated prediction by many, Bitcoin finally hits 60K this Saturday afternoon. The whole cryptocurrency market is on fire, and momentum seems pretty strong. Not only did Bitcoin pass the 60K mark, but currently its trading volume is through the roof!

Binance users were the ones that got rekt. The cryptocurrency exchange took a lead in terms of the highest amount of BTC liquidation with a whopping 49%. This is not the first time that the platform’s users have suffered the max.

This can be safely attributed to the fact that the traders on Binance started to use 20x or higher leverage and some even going for an astonishing 125x leverage just months after the launch of Binance Futures. Greater leverage, greater risk.

Other platforms to trail behind were Huobi, Bybit, and BitMEX with 23%, 12.6%, and 9% respectively.
Bitcoin Shed Billions After Record Breaking Weekend

Crypto had another wild weekend and bitcoin investors as prices ballooned before quickly bursting leaving markets in the red.

On Sunday, the world’s largest
cryptocurrency reached an all time high of $61,700 after an almost vertical surge in price that started on Saturday morning European time.

But then come Monday morning, an almost identical looking price drop saw prices drop back down into the $50,000s.
The $3,000 drop represents a 4.9% slide in the last 24 hours, according to Nomics. For global market cap, which went above $1.82 trillion on the weekend, prices are down to $1.74 trillion, resulting in nearly a $100 billion loss.

The movement came around the same time Coinbase, Bitcoin and Direct Deposit all became trending topics on Twitter.
That lost topic is in reference to some Americans receiving their stimulus checks as part of Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill.

If US citizens were buying Bitcoin at that time, it would have been quite the introduction to the whirlwind world of cryptocurrencies.

Another factor unique to this particular cycle could be attributed to India’s about-turn on Bitcoin holders.

The Indian government is reportedly planning to ban cryptocurrencies.

New reports of the ban have re-emerged after the country's finance minister recently said a "calibrated" position will be taken on cryptocurrencies.

India is the 10th largest market for Bitcoin trading volume, according to Statista, meaning measures like the above are likely to have a significant impact on prices.
Report: Covid-19 Caused 50% of Adults Aged Between 35 and 44 to Embrace Cryptocurrencies

A new study, which was undertaken by the Slovakian internet security company Eset, finds 50% of 35 to 44-year-olds have become involved in cryptocurrencies since the pandemic. The figure, the highest for any age group, underscores the role Covid-19 restrictions had in forcing citizens from six countries into embracing crypto assets.

Changed Habits and Preferences

According to Eset’s press release, a total of about 10,000 consumers participated in the study, and from that figure, 2,000 came from the United States. The rest of the respondents were from the U.K., Australia, Japan, Mexico, and Brazil.

As the findings of the so-called Eset Global Fintech Study suggest, the changed habits and preferences may have been prompted by the “lack of access to physical banks during the Covid-19 lockdowns.” In addition to fueling the use of cryptocurrencies, the pandemic lockdowns also contributed to the rise of banking practices that adhere to social distancing regulations.

“(About) 30% of Americans said that they have now been using online banking more frequently and 30% also said they have been using mobile banking more frequently. Becoming more interested in managing their own finances (23%) was the next most popular answer,” states the study report.

On the other hand, the researchers also point to the increase in “targeted ransomware attacks that demand payments in cryptocurrencies” as another indication of the rising profile of cryptocurrencies since the pandemic.
Visa CEO Reveals Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Plans

The company is planning to enable the purchase of Bitcoin with Visa credentials.

Al Kelly, the CEO of Visa, said that the financial services company is planning to enable the buying of Bitcoin on Visa credentials. The latest statement of Kelly came after Mastercard revealed its cryptocurrency plans in February.

During his conversation at ‘Fortune’s Leadership Next’ podcast, Kelly said that the company is planning to work with Bitcoin wallets. In February 2021, Visa announced a partnership with First Boulevard, a digitally native neobank focused on building generational wealth for the Black community, to accelerate the company’s efforts to enter the cryptocurrency market.

“We’re trying to do two things. One is to enable the purchase of bitcoin on Visa credentials. And secondly, working with bitcoin wallets to allow the bitcoin to be translated into a fiat currency and therefore immediately be able to be used at any of the 70 million places around the world where Visa is accepted,” Kelly said.

Mastercard, the rival of Visa, announced earlier this year that the company is planning to accept Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency assets in 2021. Raj Dhamodharan, EVP Blockchain and Digital Partnerships at Mastercard, mentioned in an official post that the company will focus on consumer protection and compliance before the selection of cryptocurrencies.

Adoption of Bitcoin

Due to the recent surge in retail and institutional demand for Bitcoin, several financial firms worldwide have started working on the acceptance of BTC as a payment method. Tesla, the world’s largest electric-car maker, recently revealed its $1.5 billion investment in Bitcoin and mentioned that the company is planning to accept BTC as a mode of payment for its products. CoinFlip, one of the leading Bitcoin ATM providers in the US, has expanded its network significantly in the last few months due to a surge in demand.

The world’s largest cryptocurrency registered an all-time high of $61,000 on Sunday. As of writing, BTC is trading near $56,000 with a total market cap of more than $1.05 trillion.
Bitcoin Briefly Reclaims $59,000 After Fed Promises Not to Raise Rates

Earlier today, the world's flagship cryptocurrency surged to reclaim the $59,000 level and touched $59,668 on the U.S.-based Kraken exchange.

By now, Bitcoin has retraced to the $58,733 price mark.

BTC started rallying after the Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell announced that interest rates will not be increased until 2023.

During his press conference on Wednesday, Powell also mentioned that the Fed would continue to provide monetary support to the U.S. economy as long as it is necessary to help it revive.

On Saturday, Bitcoin reached a new all-time high above the $61,800 level but then collapsed the next day when traders began fixing profits and selling.
Central Bank Of Nigeria Reaffirms: Crypto Trading Has Not Been Banned

A top official from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) dissmissed claims that the bank has ever banned crypto.

Adamu Lamtek, a top CBN official reportedly stated that the bank protected the banking sector from cryptocurrencies—it didn't ban crypto trading itself.

The clarification comes more than a month after Nigeria’s central bank told all banks to immediately cancel their services for customers who buy, sell, or trade cryptocurrencies. It isn't clear what prompted the bank’s decision.

“The CBN did not place restrictions from use of [sic] cryptocurrencies and we are not discouraging people from trading in it,” Lamtek was quoted as saying “What we have just done was to prohibit transactions on cryptocurrencies in the banking sector."

Lamtek spoke on behalf of the governor of the bank, Godwin Emefiele, and reportedly disclosed this at a recent meeting for journalists held by the bank in the Nigerian city Abuja.

But these words shouldn’t be taken as the Nigerian government endorsing crypto; the Central Bank has no jurisdiction over who can trade cryptocurrencies to begin with, explained Danny Oyekan, CEO of investment firm Dan Holdings and social payments app Coins App.

Crypto is under the jurisdiction of Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission. Back in September, Nigeria’s SEC announced plans to regulate the crypto sector by deeming cryptocurrencies securities until proven otherwise.

Despite the regulatory uncertainty, Nigeria is often called Africa’s Bitcoin Nation as the country’s crypto trading volume outpaces most other countries in the world.

The Post-Ban Nigerian Crypto Industry

It’s been just over a month since the Nigerian Central Bank’s ban on financial institutions dealing with crypto companies came into force.

But the Nigerian crypto industry hasn’t died out. “The industry has shown resilience and quickly adapted by developing peer-to-peer exchanges,” Oyekan told Decrypt. “That’s not an easy feat to accomplish in 1-2 months.”

In response to the ban, OTC deals are still underway and the informal peer-to-peer market is also growing, explained Oyekan.

“So in conclusion, the ban only forced the fiat channels underground.”
Bitcoin welcomes a new disciple. This time it’s “The Wolf of Wall Street”

Jordan Belfort, one of Bitcoin’s early castigators, has retraced his steps and is now bullish on the future of the flagship cryptocurrency.

The popular investor, motivational speaker, and stockbroker recently told Fortune that Bitcoin could eventually reach $100,000. Belfort, who calls himself “The Wolf of Wall Street,” has earlier said that Bitcoin would vanish with the 2018 crypto winter. However, it appears he is finally coming to accept the inevitability of the digital asset.

He admitted during his appearance on Fortune that he was wrong about Bitcoin when he predicted its doom in 2017. He was quite sure that Bitcoin would succumb to pressures from regulators due to its anonymous nature and potential of being used to launder money and finance illicit activities.

Belfort is now a Bitcoin believe. He pointed to the influx of institutional investors and new retail players.

As for his $100k prediction, Belfort is positive that Bitcoin’s advantages over stocks in terms of limited emission will push it to new highs.

Bitcoin has continued to win the heart of critics. Former Fed governor and Bitcoin skeptic Kevin Warsh endorsed Bitcoin as a “sensible investment” early this year. According to him:

"I think that Bitcoin does make sense as part of a portfolio in this environment where you have the most fundamental shift in monetary policy since Paul Volcker (former Federal Reserve Chair). This is a big shift that we’re seeing under the Powell Fed, rightly or wrongly."

Elon Musk: Tesla now accepts Bitcoin from US customers

Earlier this year, Tesla initially hinted at accepting Bitcoin for payments in an SEC filing.

Finally, Elon Musk has announced that Tesla cars can now be purchased using Bitcoin (BTC). The electric car company’s CEO and “Technoking” stated that the company would operate Bitcoin nodes directly, and would hold on to the Bitcoin it accumulates without converting it to fiat.

Tesla first signaled its intention to start accepting Bitcoin for products in early February, following its purchase of $1.5 billion worth of the digital asset, an SEC filing showed. The option to buy a Tesla using BTC will only be extended to U.S-based customers for the time being.

Elon Musk’s insistence that the Bitcoin earned through the sale of the firm’s vehicles won’t be converted to fiat suggests it is not just being utilized as a transactional medium, but also an investment tool.

By running its own dedicated Bitcoin nodes, Tesla will join a global network of peer-to-peer operators who host and synchronize the Bitcoin blockchain.

Visitors to Tesla's website from a U.S.-based IP address will now see a new Bitcoin payment widget added to the site's checkout options. The impact of Tesla's acceptance of Bitcoin may have been felt on the cryptocurrency market early on Wednesday. Coinciding with the breaking of the news, the dollar value of Bitcoin jumped 2.9% from $54,056 to $55,630.

Tesla's Bitcoin terms and conditions do state that Bitcoin is the only digital asset that Tesla accepts as payment for its products at this time. "You may not make purchases with us using any other digital asset, including Bitcoin fork products, such as Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV. Our Bitcoin digital wallet is not configured to detect or receive digital assets other than Bitcoin," state the terms.

'Still early' for BTC price peak: 2 things to watch in Bitcoin this week

Bitcoin still has plenty of room to run this cycle, data reiterates, while April price gains may "depend on" consumers investing and leaving debts for another day.

RSI says Bitcoin will deliver more gains

Bitcoin technical indicators remain overwhelmingly bullish on longer timeframes.

The latest one to be highlighted is the relative strength index (RSI), which is now entering its “peak” phase which traditionally accompanies price highs.

Quant analyst PlanB, creator of the stock-to-flow series of Bitcoin price models, showed how RSI fluctuates relative to the point in Bitcoin’s halving cycles — four-yearly periods between reductions in the block subsidies paid to miners.

With the year after a halving normally the best in terms of price gains, RSI is indicating that 2021 will be no different to 2013 or 2017.

“Bitcoin monthly RSI is not even 95. In 2011, 2013 and 2017 bull markets we had at least 3 months above 95. Still early,” he summarized over the weekend.

Stock-to-flow meanwhile demands a $100,000 or $288,000 average BTC/USD price this halving cycle, depending on the exact model used.

BTC price "still consolidating" at $56,000

For Bitcoin spot markets, at least earlier on Monday, it’s a tale of consolidation.

Saturday and Sunday brought some welcome relief for traders who had watched BTC/USD descend to lows, which at one point tapped $50,000 itself.

Deeper dives were avoided, however, and liquidity at $46,000 was left untouched in favor of a return to familiar resistance beginning at around $56,000.

At the time of writing, that was exactly where Bitcoin was, still unable to tackle what has become a broad sea of sellers all the way up to current all-time highs of $61,700.

“Bitcoin scenario is playing out so far, in which the crucial resistance fails to break in one-go. Either way, that's not bad,” Cointelegraph Markets analyst Michaël van de Poppe summarized on Sunday.

“If $54K fails to hold support, I'm assuming we'll see this scenario play out. Still consolidation.”

This wait-and-see attitude has characterized the mood among analysts following the all-time highs. The consequences of a supply shock in the form of draining exchange reserves and a lack of selling from strong hodlers, they argue, have yet to be felt.
