Amirthakadeswarar Temple, Melakadambur is one of the finest examples of early Chola temple architecture and is especially famous for its rare chariot-shaped sanctum.
Built during the reign of Kulothunga Chola I in the 12th century, the temple is adorned with exquisitely carved sculptures depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.
The presiding deity, Lord Shiva as Amirthakadeswarar, is believed to have been worshipped by the Devas to obtain the nectar of immortality, โAmirtham.โ
The intricate stonework, musical pillars, and beautifully sculpted panels make this temple a treasured gem of Tamil Naduโs spiritual and artistic heritage.
