May 2026 saw the lowest Russian 🇷🇺 gains since the Donbas offensive started, 2 years and half ago.

Only 12% of Donbas was taken since then, when Russia was occupying 77% of the eastern region. The latest numbers are not positive for Russia.

I combined the number of km2 Russia took in the Donbas region (Donetsk and Luhansk) since october 2023.

This was all along the primary russian target and despite 2 and a half years of full scale offensive, only 6 496 km2 were taken, with few important cities.

Despite a record number of attacks launched (which shows more that Russia is sending 1-2 men on assault each), a record number of strikes on Ukraine, Russia saw the smallest gains in 2 years and half, with around 18 km2 taken.

5 388 km2 are remaining under ukrainian control, including important cities like Dobropilla, Kramatorsk, Sloviansk or Drujkivka as well as massive fortifications.

After russian failure to exploit the Dobropilla breakthrough in august 2025, the Donbas offensive have slowly stalled, with only small gains due to the final fall of Pokrovsk between december and january.

The Kramatorsk offensive did not see too much sucesses yet.
