During the war, we observed significant use of FPV drones during the Battle of Khartoum, but FPV's limited range makes it unsuitable for the size of the Sudanese theater of operations.

The drone remains primarily used for reconnaissance.

The Sudanese army, which possessed an air force, lost a significant portion (though not all) of its aircraft in the war and now relies heavily on MALE drones to compensate for this deficiency.

The FSR, which lacked an air force, acquired numerous attack drones to support its offensives.

Recently, the international partners of the two belligerents have obtained a number of drones of two types: kamikaze attack drones, such as the Shahed/Geran in Russia, and MALE drones that carry out both air defense and ground attack missions.

The SAF drones :

The army primarily uses Turkish drones, the Bayraktar TB2, but also increasingly the Baykar Akinci. Several of these have been destroyed in recent years.

The SAF also used Iranian drones, the Mohajer-6, but there has been no recent evidence of this.

The RSF drones :

The RSF primarily uses drones supplied by the United Arab Emirates, particularly the Chinese Wing Loong II and CH-95 drones. The @HRL_YaleSPH recently identified the presence of Chinese BZK-005E drones supplied by the UAE, deployed at Nyala airport.

According to ACLED and @Cen4infoRes, hundreds of strikes have killed thousands of civilians, particularly in Kordofan and Darfur.

This forgotten drone war is also a direct confrontation between Turkish and Chinese/Emirati drones. For Ankara, it's a way to test their new drone technologies.
