⚡️🇺🇸🤖🪖 DoD signed a $500 million contract with Meta-backed Scale AI for data analysis and support of "military decision-making" — Bloomberg

• The new agreement provides for a five-fold increase in funding compared to the previous $100 million contract signed with Scale AI in September 2025.

• Last year, Meta acquired 49% of the company for $14.3 billion, which secured the company's entry into the superintelligence efforts and presence to the federal AI contracting boom.

• The $29 billion startup, founded by 29-year-old billionaire Alexander Wang, is also working on the Defense Innovation Unit program to integrate AI into military planning and operations in collaboration with Anduril and Microsoft, as well as on the missile defense system Golden Dome

➡️ On May 1, the Pentagon announced agreements with OpenAI, Alphabet, Nvidia, SpaceX, Microsoft, Amazon, and Reflection on "expanding the use of advanced AI in military operations" with integration into secret networks of IL6 and IL7 levels, — which effectively deprived civilian users of access to heavy models, leaving only heavily lobotomized or cut-down versions in public access.

• The total confiscation of GPUs for military needs and the cascading collapse of the transport layer have been ongoing for almost 3 weeks.

Catherine Harris, Head of Defense at Scale AI, frankly stated in a press release published on Wednesday:

On April 28, 2026, Cameron Stanley, the Pentagon's chief digital and AI officer, admitted that the DoD is now using Google's Gemini for classified projects.

• The Straits Times reported that for this purpose, Google amended its contract with the Pentagon, providing the department with direct API access to its models. No bespoke military AI. It's Google's commercial civilian Gemini models that are now directly integrated into the US defense system.

• The Decoder dug into the contract language and found something noteworthy. The deal includes language stating the AI “is not intended for domestic mass surveillance or autonomous weapons without appropriate human oversight.” Sounds reassuring, right?

However, professional lawyers claim that these words have virtually no legal force.

Charlie Bullock, a lawyer and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Law and AI, explained that the phrase “is not intended for, and should not be used for” simply signals that such use would be unwelcome, but it wouldn’t actually constitute a breach of contract.

• Furthermore, the contract explicitly states: “This Agreement does not confer any right to control or veto Government operational decision-making.”

CONCLUSION: Google cannot prevent the Pentagon from doing whatever it pleases with their AI.

⁉️For what sum did Google relinquish rights to its model? And why did the corporation not even bother to notify the employees who worked on creating Gemini?

➡️ The same day Google signed the deal, the same day, more than 700 Google employees sent an open letter of protest to CEO Sundar Pichai.
Many of them came from Google’s own DeepMind AI research lab. These aren’t random interns. These are the people who build the AI.

They urged Pichai to abandon all collaboration with the Pentagon:

“We want to see AI benefit humanity; not to see it being used in inhumane or extremely harmful ways.

Human lives are already being lost and civil liberties put at risk at home and abroad from misuses of the technology we’re playing a key role in building.

The only way to guarantee that Google does not become associated with such harms is to reject any classified workloads."

➡️ This isn’t the first time Google employees have pushed back on military contracts

Back in 2018, thousands of employees protested the company’s involvement in Project Maven, a Pentagon initiative using AI to analyze drone footage. The backlash was so intense that Google chose not to renew the contract and pledged never to use AI for weapons.

But Google finds this blood insufficient.

➡️ Google made its choice. The Pentagon got its super-AI. And hundreds of engineers who built that AI are left wondering exactly what it’s being used for, in rooms they’ll never be allowed to enter.

You might be thinking: “Okay, this is interesting, but what does it have to do with me?”

More than you’d think.

First, there’s the chip shortage angle. Gadget Review points out that military AI contracts with Nvidia, Microsoft, and AWS are already driving up demand for the same hardware that powers your gaming rig and your favorite cloud services. 🚀 🇨🇳 China launched the Tianzhou 10 robotic cargo mission on Monday morning in Hainan province, sending supplies and propellants to the Tiangong space station.

The cargo vessel's carrier — a 53-meter-tall Long March 7 rocket — lifted off at 8:14 am local time from a launch service tower at the Wenchang Space Launch Center in Hainan's southeastern coast.

Tianzhou-10 is hailed as the world's most capable active-duty cargo spacecraft.

As the 20th spaceship and the ninth cargo craft to connect with Tiangong, the Tianzhou 10 is carrying nearly 6.2 metric tons of mission necessities, science equipment, and about 700 kilograms of fuel.

The cargo includes a new spacewalk suits, a new treadmill and six sets of experimental instruments, which cover scientific experiments in microgravity and fluid physics as well as new spacecraft technological tests.
