How to Backup your Degoogled Phone.

Many of you may not have backed up your phone the typical way for privacy reasons.

However most people don't want to lose all the data if they lose or break their phone.

There is a great solution to this:
Local & encrypted backup using seedvault.
It requires nothing but a USB drive and 15 minutes of your time.

You will need:
- 30% or more battery remaining.
- A USB-C ThumbDrive, 32gb or more.
Which can easily be found in many retail stores.
OR
- A regular USB Thumbdrive of sufficient capacity and a USB-A to C adapter.


Steps:
1. Plug in usb
2. Go to Settings>System>Backup
3. You will be prompted to write down a 12 word Recovery Code aka a SeedPhrase.
3a. (if you are not, hit 'Recovery Code' and then 'Generate new code' and then write down your new 12 word password)

This will be how you unlock your backup whilst restoring it so keep it safe!

4. Select the usb drive and then your backup options. include files and pictures if desired.

⚠️ Please note that seedvault is primarily for backing up sms&call history, contacts, settings, app layout and installed apps with their data if possible. The file / media backup functionality is experimental, so best you backup your photos and things manually onto a pc or the usb stick.

5. Hit the top right button and select backup now if it hasnt started already, wait till it is complete before ejecting.

You can view the progress in the notification menu, (drag down from the top of the screen). (Be sure to turn off Do not disturb to see it.)

Done! Now it wont be so inconvenient if you lose or break your device 🙂

Also please note you can only restore this kind of backup onto degoogled phones. it is useful for upgrading to a new device or if you choose to reset your phone.

Here is my temporary workaround:

Press and hold Aurora Store
Press App Info
Select 'Open by default'
And make sure to add the two supported links:
(play.google.com & market.android.com)

Next, to download an app of choice usually found on google play;
open your web browser
then search (APPNAME + Playstore App)

Clicking a playstore app link should open the Aurora Store automatically where you will be able to hit download/install

If this does not work, Try updating aurora store and try a different browser.

if it still does not work, please wait for the Aurora Store update to fix the problem.

Search for apps via browser and open results in Aurora.

Open links in apps must be enabled browser-side. If configured correctly, you will be able to select Aurora in the dropdown menu.
