In Memory of Ian Dodds, PhD, FRSA (1942–2024)



We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Dr Ian Dodds, who died on 31 May 2024, aged 82. Ian was a tireless advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion long before it became mainstream. As Vice Chairman of the Gay Business Association, he brought wisdom, warmth, and unwavering commitment to our mission.



Ian was a regular and cherished presence at our events until 2021, when his health began to decline. Many will remember his powerful story from his time as Head of HR at ICI, where he championed inclusive practices to demonstrate how EDI drives thriving, resilient companies. His insights were not just theoretical—they were lived, practiced, and generously shared.



He joined us for the launch of the Gay Professional Network in 2010, lending his support and gravitas to a new chapter in our community’s journey. Ian’s contributions to both business and social progress were immense, and his legacy will continue to inspire.



Ian is survived by his son, Tim, to whom we extend our deepest condolences.



We honour Ian not only for his professional achievements, but for the kindness, integrity, and courage he brought to every room. He will be missed.
