Over a decade ago, Singapore began exploring a different way to fight dengue. π¦π¬
TLDR: Learn more at our 10th anniversary carnival on 31 Oct (Sat), 9.30am to 3pm at Our Tampines Hub, Central Plaza! π
Instead of relying only on traditional mosquito control methods, scientists explored the use of a naturally occurring bacterium called Wolbachia as part of a mosquito suppression strategy.
10 years on, Singapore stands as the first country in the world to deploy Wolbachia suppression technology in a high-rise, high-density urban environment β an approach endorsed by the World Health Organization as the proven model for novel vector control. Today, Project Wolbachia is a powerful complementary tool in Singapore's fight against dengue. π
Over the next few weeks, we'll take you behind the scenes of Project Wolbachia, from how the programme works and the safeguards in place, to the impact it has made over the past decade.
Follow this special series as we celebrate 10 Years of #ProjectWolbachiaSG.
